ukrainian christmas eve recipes

cool! or maybe with the ground meat, i dunno, which tastes better??? thanks
ok, if you want bacon you still ahve to mix it up with the ground meat. If you want fasting rolls, you use leak insted of meat. Here it goes:

You need to get pickled cabage. They have it at foreign stores - polish, albanian, arabic, yugoslavian, macedonian etc. Take the meat and the bacon and cook it in a pan (optional is diced onion) with some non-stick spray or some oil + spices (salt, black pepper, paprika). When thats done, add the rice and cook it all together for few minutes. Then take the pickled cabage and but a scoop of the mixture in the middle of each leaf and then roll it tight. Make sure you have in mind that the rice is gonna grow (or whatever correct word in english is ;) ) when cooked in pot. Lay the bottom of the pot with the small cabage leaves that are leftovers, lay the rolls in there, pour some water. If you want you can add some smoked meat for flavour and smell. Simmer covered on top of stove. When you think that the rice is cooked, take a pot on a side and heat up a little oil. When oil is hot, put a little white flour, just make sure its not gonna turn into dough. When the flour looks brownish, add paprika and pour all that in the pot. Turn off stove. THE END :)

I found some, it is funny though, you know what type you REALLY want and you can't find them. Trial and error I guess. There is such a variation on all of the recipes. nelisnika is one of them and same with wheat soup.

So the one with leak and no meat is it the same prep as the one with meat, just don't add the meat? We are really not supposed to have any meat on christmas eve with the exception of fish. Not sure where the head cheese came in, or the kubasa LOL.

yeah, we do it the same - no meat on christmas except fish. Yes, substitute the meat with leak, everything else is the same. Trust me, its soooo much better, unless you are a big meat eating lover ;)

well, I found the pampushky for you, but with dry fruit fillings, not poppy seed and prunes. You can maybe substitute. I found poppy sead cake though :)

ok here is a blonde moment, and yup it is my fault for posting it in C&C so joke away LOL. What is leak? I thought might have been similar to cabbage.

and I will take whatever i can get cause I know sometimes they make the buns different and i may just try the dry fruit filling because it is always good to try something new since all we ever had was the poppy seed and prunes.

I may just have to give you more karma girl. I really appreciate this
