Tuna and Mercury Toxicity and Depression

I've been filling pretty shitty for some time now and am a little frustrated with what the doctors have told me, so I sent some of my hair for testing, and the results indicate that the level of mercury in my body is 5X what the maximum should be. I"m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and can give me any advice w/r/t the best way to get my system back to normal.

Does anyone know if injecting B-12 helps? I read that the symptoms of mercury toxicity are almost identical to B-12 deficiency, b/c mercury competes w/ B-12 in the body (or something like that).

BTW - I'm pretty sure the cause of this is tuna. Over the last 10+ years, I have been eating at least 30 cans of tuna per month, which I don't think is uncommon for people living my lifestyle. I am also a big sushi eater.

it's not the sushi but i have heard of the mecury waqrning on canned tuna. it's how they package it and i belive it is used for preservative purposes.swordfish is also exeptionally high i belive.what are some symptoms you are experiencing just out of curiosity?
i remember reading somewhere that the most tuna an average man shouyld consume/week is 2-3 cans max, which would make 30 cans/month quite excessive.
merc poisoning, over time will ruin your liver, kidneys, do some serious damage to your brain(one of the causes of alzheimers), along with many other ugly things.
tuna is still good though but people who want to be safe are just gonna have to find another protein source and slow the tuna intake down.

it really is a shame, certain types of fish are excellent sources of protein/fat ... god damn mercury in the waters.

b12 will do exactly squat. alpha lipoic acid is a potent mercury chelator, my favorite is r-ala. i'm not kidding, look it up.

40butpumpin is right on the money about r-ala.

AlphaSilverBlack,

I described most of my symptoms in a recent post:

I also experience a lot of lot tingling/numbness in my limbs (and ass when sitting, which I never used to get even when I was a lot bigger and less flexible. Forgetfulness is sometimes a problem as well. Apparently, mercury affects fatty tissues like the brain and organs more so than others.

Most of symptoms are consistent with overtraining/low carb/eca, but my concern is that they don't seem to be getting better. Sometimes I feel like I ruined myself for life by doing all of that.

no, bro, you haven't ruined yourself for life. let me ask you a question: do you have mercury fillings in your mouth? if you do that will put way more mercury in your body than eating tuna will. but i agree that eating tuna can and will put enough Hg in you to cause health problems.

if you're serious about taking care of this problem consider this....if you have Hg amalgums in your mouth you need to get them replaced by something non-metalic. i did this, it cost about $1000 but my insurance paid for most of this because the Hg amalgums were deteriorating anyway. this is a common problem and you should have no problem finding a dentist that will state that to get it covered. after this or if you don't have them to begin with, just start the chelating process. DMSA and ALA are the two BEST and SAFEST substances available for chelating mercury. i highly recommend a book by Andy Cutler called Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment.

also take a look at his link...

but the easy way is to cycle r-ala around the clock for 3 or 4 week cycles. like 200mg r-ala every 4 hours, again, around the clock for 3 or 4 weeks and then off for that same amount of time and just continue this indefinitely until you feel better consistently for months. using DMSA concomitantly will get it out faster but r-ala can also do that job in and of itself.

just do some research bro and don't get stressed, you can get that shit out of you and you can and will begin to feel better.

:)

racemic ALA works in that aspect as good as r-ALA. The two sulfurs in the carbon ring are responsible for the binding to heavy metals (except lead), and does not depend on the side at which the carbon chain is.

indeed it does, however, r-ala has other benefits to justifying its use over s-ala. but i don't mean to be a pain the ass, i just like to get the biggest bang for my buck. :)

How can they let canned foods out onto the market that when eaten will easily cause toxicity???

Wait a sec. I have fillings that are over 10 years old... When and did they ever start using low Hg metals?

Metallic fillings are usually a mix of three metals. I believe that mercury is about 50% of the total. The American Dental Association doesn't believe that mercury fillings cause problems, and neither do most people in the dental profession. A good friend of mine who is bodybuilder and a dentist is adamant about this and pointed to a recent study that compared the cancer rate in dentists (most dentists usually have a level of mercury that is 3x that of a normal person) with the rest of the population. My response to him was that cancer is only one disease and that dentists have the highest suicide rate among the professions and that it would be almost impossible to do a study that took quality of life issues into account. We know 2 things: (1) mercury is poisonous and causes health problems, and (2) fillings are a source of mercury. . . that's all I need to know.

W/r/t the tuna/toxicity issue. . . . with some consumer items, (alcohol and cigarettes come to mind) the dangers are obvious and we assume the risk when we use them. In my opinion, with something like tuna, that shouldn't be the case. To me it was a basic item, much like milk and bread is for some people. Its like a slap in the face, trying to be healthy all these years and then finding out your toxic b/c of the healthy choices you thought you were making.

"Dentists have the highest suicide rate among the professions"

I remember in the NYPD we would get talks from the shrinks once in a while. They did say that dentist had the highest suicide rate and I think a librarian was the lower. They associated it with job stress. But mercury poisoning could also be a factor. Messes with the head a little long term.

I guess you can equate mercury in tuna with the overall quality of bottled water. I remember seeing something on TV where they found that many bottled waters were NOT what people thought they were getting.
