Torture excercises: What do you do?

wind sprints- pick a distance (say width of a football field to start)
now run as fast as you can across.... rest a set period of time (15-20 seconds-adjust depending on your degree of conditioning and your chance of dropping dead) and repeat approximately 15-20 times...

ladders-again a football field works, or cones or what ever you got... do this continuously without a rest..... run to the 10 yard line, run to the back to the goal, run to the 20, run to the goal, run to the 30, run to the goal, run to the 40, run to the goal....etc, etc, hit each rung of the ladder.... got it? There are endless variations of this, 5 yard laddrs, 20 yard, long sprints first, short sprints first, short-long-short, long-short-long.... try going 10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90,100,90,80,70,60,50,40,30,20,10

These are both very common athletic torture here in the US....
 
When i was in the army we had a thing called the soldiers test. Its basically a four day long team competition where they make you do all kinds of torturous shit and hardly gives you any sleep or food. Mostly it consisted of funning very long distance in the wood with tons of gear on your back, crawling kneedeep in mud trough bigass fields and swimming in ice cold water while trying to beat the other teams.

I was seriously fucked up the last day. Most of the people in my team was delusional. When we had reached one of the checkpoints where we where promised food and rest, the officer there told us that the food was five kilometers to the east and the water was five kilometers to the west. That was an extra ten kilometers that we hadn't saved any strength for. I almost cried.

I'm never going back to the stinking army.
 
Did you guys see the Eco Challenge New Zealand on tv last year? Very interesting adventure race. One team tried to do the whole race (about 4 days worth over mountains, rivers, cliffs, etc) without sleep. One dude went totally delusional and cost them the win.

Becoming: That sounds alot like the shuttle run I did. Hardcore stuff!!! Interval training is quite close to it also. That stuff really gets the heart going!

This is exactly what I strive for when I stay up for days. Unfortunately it never happens.

Yeah we went for the water no contest. I dont know what the port-hole effect is.
Subjective illusion you're a crazy mofo :) I love the feeling you get when you have pushed yourself beyond what you thought was possible but i would never do that shit again. I dont think i would even make it with the bulk I'm carrying today plus I'm not eighteen anymore.

I'm 25. I Have orthostatic hypotension & bradyarrhythmia, heart murmur and palpitations, bad back, bad legs, and a consistent oral temperature not far off hypothermia,... As for my mind,.. I don't even wanna talk about that! For me being 'hardcore' is not a choice. My body decides for me.


My latest Project:

For research due to curiosity I have decided to undertake a,.. 'special' mission - To subsist exclusively on water. I will 'attempt' to take my anatomy to the brink of its physical and psychological enduring cut-off point.

I will record on a daily basis the following information:

Day number
Weight
Body mass index
Waist circumference
Hip circumference
Waist/hip ratio
Ketone reading
Heart rate
Breath rate
Oral body temperature
Blood pressure
Comments concerning bodily appearance and sensation
Comments addressing emotional and intellectual ability
Duration and intensity of physical excercise routines
General commentary

...I have started a cleansing 'pre-fast' which consists of celery and lettuce to which I will do for the 3 days prior. I will proceed 'all-out' on July 19th.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in the results. I'm concerned as to if I should post my progress on 'this' board. I suspect I may anger the non-concerned users...

Please don't take this the wrong way but I think you shouldn't do this. You already have health problems and doing these kinds of tests on yourself could just end up making it worse. Why don't you just try to channel all that effort you would put on trying to live on water and just lift weights and absolutely destroy them each time you workout, while eating healthy and sleeping alot. That would be alot better for you. Only do this if you're doctor says it OK though and it won't affect your heart. Better yet, again don't take this the wrong way, but maybe if you haven't already you should try going to see a psychiatrist because this sounds like a very unhealthy obsession. I see a psychiatrist and I'm on meds so theres no need to feel ashamed and don't feel like I'm talking down to you. Theres probably some meds out there that can help you overcome this, or maybe even just talk therapy might help. You're health and life are more valuable than feeling like you have to prove your fortitude or manhood constantly, that really isn't important. Like I said earlier its good sometimes to test yourself physically and mentally but not if its going to destroy your body and health
