I remember reading a study that showed topical flutamide being effective...
... here it is
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/...ve&db=PubMed&list_uids=10601691&dopt=Abstract
Both finasteride and flutamide were topically effective.
In an in vitro diffusion study of flutamide gel using hairless mouse skin, they found a beneficial effect of the gel in comparison with a hydroalcoholic solution or a gel containing no penetration enhancer.
What was that gel?
The study that I posted shows lack of effect on human scalp, however it might work on mice.
Anyone who has tried the topical route of administration, please post your results, as we know that studies carry a wide range of disparity.
Also the dosages are not stated and I assume that they're quite high, as whenever they use mice for experiments they use supra-physiological doses, enough to castrate us humans.
So it makes sense that let's say an equivalent dose for humans would be a solution consisting of 100mgs of topical finasteride, then probably 5% got absorbed systemically.
This is explained in the article that finasteride's effect is achieved through lowering circulating levels of DHT systemically, and at 5% which equates to 5mg, this is more then adequate to effeciently decrease DHT levels as the reccomended dose is 1mg/day.
So in conclusion I dont think one would want to spend large amounts of money to produce a large single dose topically which produces the same effect of a 1-5mg dose orally. Just my 2cc's.
Anyone who comes across a study demonstrating a 5mg topical dose being effective for MPB in humans, please post up, as my study clearly shows this dose as having no effect on circulating DHT levels.
