One could argue that large American conglomerates are also government subsidised and they have major oil stakes in foreign countries like China. Not arguing your point, I just see it a little differently when we look the other way when our companies do it yet scream when the Chinese do the same.

the chinese are taking the same position as the north koreans after the 'altruistic' actions of the US in afghanistan/iraq - and that is that it isnt enough to deal with the US honestly, you have to deal with them from a position of power, or youre lost.

the chinese know that they cant move their people from china to the US, rendering their military impotent against the air power of the US, and so they have to fall back on what they have, which is nuclear. the US cant go to china without being obliterated by a few million chinese, and the chinese cant set foot outside asia without being bombed from above, meaning stalemate. which is good.

if either had an advantage, there might be war. as it is....i dont see it happening. not over taiwan. if the chinese started moving, maybe...
