Toning – Cutting?

Toning – Cutting?

I have read in plenty of places, but I need to verify it.

I am a pretty big guy as it is and need to get toned; I am not looking for more strength, rather to have more tone in my body.

I have been running and I know that running will help with toning. With weight training, I have read that with less weight and more reps will help to cut fat and tone muscle. Is this true?

I have read in a recent thread about building arms, people are suggesting lifting heavy.

What is the correct answer?

What I have been doing is start at approx 70% of my max capacity and repeating reps till muscle fatigue. I do a total of 3 sets, taking 10lbs off each set and lift until muscle fatigue.

Is the above a good cutting workout? If not, what’s recommended?

Thanks all.

Ian

1) rep ranges cannot help one cut, they can just stimulate your muscles to grow

2) muscle burns fat so the more muscle you have the more fat you burn

3)it is all about diet if you want to lose fat.

4) what is your diet and stats, training routine ect...

Normal lifting burns just as much fat as low weight high rep. Since you build more muscle from normal lifting, your body will burn more fat to feed those muscles while you are doing cardio. So just stick to a normal lifting routine and throw in some cardio and a well balanced cutting diet and you should do fine.

That didn't really answer my question though.

My diet, I am eating healthy, almost no sugers, lots of protein, egg whites, chicken breast, and so fourth.

Working out includes a 2 mile jog in the mornings, and upper body weight training everyday alternating.

what are your stats? how much bf are you carrying? how much are you trying to loose? if your trying to loose fat 2 miles at a medium pace will do good to start but your going to need to include leg work as well and not just upper body weight training. what is your current lifting routine? these are some of the things you need to post if you want us to help

I don't know my bf count. I have been told through the board that it's around 20~25%.

I am not looking to be Mr. Universe, rather just your average healthy desired weight. I would like to have muscle tone.

My current lifting routine only really includes upper body. As most people, I am more interested in getting my upper torso to look half way decent. I am doing curls, bench, incline bench, decline bench, pull downs (not sure of proper name), and a few others. Right now, I am doing arms one day and chest and back the other, alternating. As I mentioned, I am starting with approx 70% of my max capacity and lifting till muscle fatigue, 3 sets in total, taking 10lbs off at a time.

Anything else you need, please let me know.

Thanks.

Ian

you need to include leg work as well - will help your entire body gain more muscle and drop bf ask anyone. sounds like your just starting out so i would lay out a good routine weights/cardio - gonna take a little time to see what's working for you. experiment and read some of the posts on this board. there is SO MUCH good advice hear it's unbelieveable - stick with the clean diet and keep a log of everything so you can see where you might need to make adjustments. most of all though be patient. sounds like your carrying a good amount of bf - it ain't gonna happen overnight so don't loose heart bro - it will come with 110% effort.

Toning is the Cosmo magazing term for gaining/maintaining muscle and losing fat at the same time.

Lift heavy, minimal cardio, get on a "cutting" diet. :)
