Do you want to laugh ?
Do you want to read one of those unbiased BS articles from muscle mags ?

Tofu Causes Mental Decline
Muscular Development
According to the Journal of the American College of Nutrition (19:242-255, 2000), a long-term study of Japanese-Americans that ate tofu at least once a week found that they performed worse on mental performance tests and had smaller brains than their counterparts that did not eat tofu. The theory is that the phytoestrogens that occur naturally in tofu may have contributed to the decline.

Well I don't know about BS. The research was real, and the authors found an inverse correlation between tofu consumption and midlife brain function. However, they may (in fact probably) ran into some of the typical confounding factors that plague all epidemiological studies. This is because they only looked at tofu consumption. They did not look at "why" these people were consuming more tofu, or more importantly what they WEREN'T consuming or absorbing. In other words maybe the high tofu eaters had other lifestyle differences such as being predominantly vego and not getting enough vitamins and minerals or calories (or protein). Maybe they also didn't drink coffee or alcohol. Maybe they exercised more, did yoga, meditated more......etc

Or maybe tofu consumption, all by itself, rots your brain. Maybe those anti-estrogenic compounds also inhibit estrogen functioning in the brain. Maybe life is a trade-off between reducing cancer and heart disease risk versus keeping your brain working well..........

when I said BS I was not reffering to the study of the American College of Nutrition but to those musclemags who publish parts of studies (not all) about the "danger" of soy (and never their benefits)

BTW, as you said it is very difficult to isolate the causes of a desease, especially when there can be lots of factors and when people move (ie Asian people coming to the states) and adopt a different way of living

things are not as easy as the media want us to believe, that's why epidemiology (in medicine) and datamining are so interesting :)
