Timing for KetoSticks

I have read that hydration levels can give different results for Ketosis, so my question regards the time of day to test for Ketosis Levels. I figure if I drink about 8-32ounce bottles of water a day, around 1.5 gallons, if I test it at night, my hydration levels will be very high, so the morning would be the best bet, correct? Also the morning would be the best bet for weight measurement since your water levels would be decreased to around normal, and if you are decreasing bodyweight on the mornings you weigh, you are more then likely losing fat if you are in Ketosis?

Ill bump this for now, because I keep having my Ketosticks showing Trace to Small Ketones in my Urine, but am still dropping weight like a fly. Could the Amount of ketones in my stream be small due to me drinking like 2 gallons of water a day? Because Im still dropping weight.

any CKD vetrans let me know
 
i believe drinking lots of water will dilute the amount of ketones present....

i find the readings to be highest right after eating some fats...makes sense I guess....

not sure about the morning/night thing
 
i tend to turn them much more purple in the morning, before i've consumed any water...

in the evening, there is still an obvious purple color, but it appears somewhat lighter than in the morning - most likely due to consumption of a ton of water during the day
 
i've never had mine really dark purple.....

when i'm doing really good, usually just gets to middle pink.....
 
Ketostix are like pregnancy tests...

You either are or aren't (in ketosis)

and the color range is really only an indicator of how many excess waste ketones end up in your urine. They can also be burned during exercise, sweated out, exhaled out, and diluted when drinking a lot of water.

I drink about 76 oz per day, but slow down after 5PM (or I'll end up in the bathroom all night) - and my darkest readings are around 8-9 PM after eating and after slowing down the water consumption and on nights when I don't work out.

I'll get null or low readings after a real hard workout - even if all the remaining conditions are conducive to deep purple.

As long as you are getting some indication - you are doing fine.

So basically I have gotten from these posts that not to test KetoSticks after a hard workout. But to test them in the morning, since I drink around 200ounces of water a day (training for triatholons and working out constantly). And also that to be in Ketosis you should be checking your waist measurements and lbs lost more than relying on KEtoSticks as you can be in Ketosis and not be registering a deep purple, but more of a lighter purple that is darker than Trace, and around the next two markings on the Analysis Chart.

Anyone else care to commment?
 
for the most part, i like to use ketostix just to see how certain foods will affect being in ketosis or not...and as just kind of a mental reinforcement that what i'm doing (diet-wise) is actually working....
