Thoughts on soy milk

I just bought some soy milk and I was wondering if is any better than reugalr milk..It is soy milk with chocolate flavor..

Soy milk anyone?

I didn't like the vanilla or the plain -- yuk!! I used the plain to make "alfredo sauce".

The chocolate on the other hand was F'N awesome!!!

Waaaaay too much sugar in the chocolate, mocha, and vanilla flavors of any brand.

The only ones that have minimal sugar are the ones that are not flavored and those still contain at least 6-10 grams of sugar too. The benefits of soy are really great though. Not a bad choice for a milk substitute in my opinion. (If you dont care about the sugar content that is). I would love to find a brand that does'nt contain alot of sugar.

Soy milk is a very bad idea if you are a man. You have ? for your sex.

I tell you what, in the scheme of things, if you want to substitute regular milk for soy milk I think it is a great idea. Unsweetened soy milk by Westsoy (the kind I use) gives you 90 calories per cup. 4 grams of fat (all unsaturated) 5 grams of carbs (4 fiber, no sugar) and 10 grams of protein. Plus it is obviously cholesterol free. Unless you have soy cereal, soy milk, soy burgers, and tofu all the time, then don't worry about hormone levels.

Could you please be a bit more specific ?

I have not read a "serious" (ie randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study published in a scientific review) about BBers and soy

Anthrax, I'll try to find something for you later, however there have been at least too peer reviews that showed injesting a larger serving of soy caused a reduction in total blood serum testorone levels, and an increase in shbg levels in healthy men, within 2 to 3 hours of consumption. There is another one I've heard of showing after longterm injestion of soy, men showed elevated estragen levels. Granted the odds of finding a review over studies done on bodybuilders would be highly unlikely. Almost no one uses only bodybuilders for test subjects, even in nutrition and resistance training research. You know this. However, if an effect on hormone levels is caused in healthy young men, in research, it is very reasonable to assume a similar trend would occur in bodybuilders. Being in better condition does not offer any protection from altered hormone levels from on's diet.

Hope you don't do low rep sets then, if you always follow the lastest research, as it has been proven consistantly that 12-15 rep sets stimilate more neural activity and cause similar increases in testosterone levels, but a greter inscrease in hgh levels than doing lower rep sets in the 4-6 rep range. This has been shown in both untrained subjects and atheletes. It has also been shown that doing more than 4 sets is worthless in terms of hormone release other than cortizol (which is a negative not a positive). Funny how so many guys make gains on a 5X5. Just food for thought.

As we all know here, there is a lot of marketing hype in the supplement industry

... and the protein sector must weight a lot of $

So, I guess, there are people who want us to believe that ingesting soy milk or a soy protein shake will make us become sissies with breasts in just a night

so, maybe soy causes a reduction in total blood serum testorone levels

but is it that bad ?
how much is that reduction ? 0.01% or 30%
would there be visible consequence on the average BBer (I am not talking about pros who might be more concerned about it) ?

I am not saying soy is the best protein but it may be used with others proteins sources
I guess it has its pros and its negative points

BTW we now know that what was considered sientific truth yesterday is eventually BS

So,who knows what will be the next studies on soy ?

i always heard it was good for women (maybe added calcium for osteoperosis??) either way i picked some up for my mom to add to her coffee....didnt tell her and she dosent know the difference in taste (btw she drinks her coffe 1/2 coffe 1/2 milk, so im hoping there is some benifets :) )
