The facts on common law marriages. Florida and Maryland don't recognize them. Not many states do. No such thing as automatic after a certain number of years.


wow thanks for the info. i hope its credible cause even my lawyer said 7 years is common law and that florida is one of the common law states. but doesnt matter anyway we werent together in the same state for 7 consecutive years anyway
 
Do you have children? If not and you both worked then it should be relatively easy to split. Divide stuff up 50/50 and move on.

Unless one of you worked to put the other through some sort of schooling then that party should be compensated for giving up a chunk of time to support the other.

Not talking about law, just talking about what is "right".

Wow, that would be an interesting case that would come out of that if she or you wanted to push the issue of maintenance.

Funny everyone assumes that he makes more $ than her. Maintenance can go both ways.
