there is a huge guy at the gym but he is not strong !!

I got talked into taking a powerlifting approach last year to get over a hump on the bench. Now i can only count to 5 :) Some ancillary exercises i have to do higher reps, but not the mains. Strength is the big deal for me,though i'm nowhere near being a decent powerlifter yet. I guess everything depends on what your goals are.

Just because he doesn't lift "heavy" weights doesn't necessarilly mean he can't. You can work with weights significantly below your max levels with proper form and get better results, and save the joints at the same time.

I'm curious to know how you determined that he is weak for his size.

i know what u mean- i thought that he probably was just "maintaining". but i have seen him genuinely struggle with less than body weight on bench. how did i figure that? simple- i spotted for him on 200lbs! we ended up working MY forearms.

it's all about shocking the body into growing. I'm 6'2" and 220 lbs. BF% is about 12%. I cannot flat bench more than 200lbs. and even to lift that much...I need to be spotted. There are MANY guys in my gym lifting 250+ on flat bench whom I would say are small and have no real chest development. Sure..they lift heavy, but, they don't look like they can, they do the same excercises in the same order week after week, they're strong, yet, they appear small. I never do the same routine twice. So, I never really get strong on a movement, but, I still get big. I can barely curl 70 pounds...but my arms are 19 inches. It's not how much you lift..it's how you lift it. I rarely ever go below 6 reps. I keep my reps between 12-15. I don't care how much I can lift..I just wanna get big.

this is still very baffling to me. consider this- show me a 300 lb BB who cannot bench 500 or squat 800. that won't be easy. the reason is that the big guys are also usually the strongest. many ppl i know who concentrate on strength and eat enough have also become big. this is something that has been useful for me too. its a very old formula - to get big lift big.
