The Women's Clothing Sizes Are Utter & complete Bullshit thread

This is such a persistent and serious problem I felt it deserved it's own thread.

I was just reading Dakotah's thread involving clothing sizes and all the subsequent responses. And honey I got pissed all over again thinking about the bullshit these woman hating clothing designers run on us. Like someone mentioned in Dakotah's thread, it's so arbitrary that it's become absurd. You dont see nearly the variability in men's clothes sizes as with ours. I'm anywhere from an 8 to a 10 depending on the store.....and wow, suprise I'm still 5'6" and 146 in every store.....didnt magically gain or lose 15lbs walking through the mall.

Oh and have you guys noticed how fricking TINY a small tee is these days?? Dear God I wouldnt have been able to get my tits into one of those when I was 12 and I'm only a C cup now.

And everyone one of us I think already understand this is just a symptom of a much deeper problem that exists in the western world regarding women's bodies but thats a whooooooole nother subject. :)

could not agree more, what a complete farce! :redhot:

consider how men, yes how those species suffer ( ) the degradation of S, M L, XL, XXL, and maybe a XXXL, like whatever! a meagre 5 sizes, that are divided by a wide measurable difference.

whilst we, yes, poor chained fools, must endure a numerical, measurable number of failiure, in the UK, sizes range from a 6-26! like wtf?! and in the US sizes 1 upto 12 i think? the difference between sizes is meagre, non- existant! even more, it's not even a consensus amongst major retailers, let alone designers 'supermini me' everything!

gee, i don't even want to get started on Gap, and their trend for vanity sizing......

I just eye things now. Especially pants. And I cut the tags out of them once I buy them because I honestly own pants that claim to be 14's when I'm normally a 4-5. There are a lot of shops with adorable clothes and the sizing is insane. How can I vary 10 sizes between 2 stores?

My little sister had dropped from a size 12 to an 8 and we went shopping for new jeans...the poor girl ended up crying. We'd go into stores and she's be in plus size stuff? What is that all about? She's a beatiful healthy curvy woman and the evil pants-sizers make her feel like some sort of cow. So instead of feeling awesome about losing weight, she ended up getting bummed about #'s.

And shirts! They're tiny. If you can actually find something that can fit comfortably across the shoulders and bust...it'll be huge around the waist. Or else they're really short. Especially with low rise pants. I can't wear a lot of my casual clothes to work because I end up with an inch of tummy hanging out at work....and that's not a place for that.

On a side note, women's wedding clothes have really goofy sizing too. My fiance's little sister is in our wedding and got measured for her gown 3 weeks after the baby. She was wearing around a size 14 and the dress they ordered was a 22. I didn't even tell her. And I'm going to cut the tag out when it arrives because that's going to mess with her mind if she sees it. :(

weddings are the ultimate purveyors of vanity sizing, they mess with your head like no other....

True story.

My old job was next door to a women's clothing store. A fabric rep came by to drop off a bag of fabric for me and somehow we missed each other and she left the bag over at the clothing store.

The rep left me a message that she left the bag at THE CHILDREN'S STORE next door.

Ironic part is that on the other size of the women's clothing store IS a children's clothing store. Needless to say I went to the children's store and found nothing until I called the rep back to find out she though the women's clothing store was children's store becuase of the tiny clothes hanging in the window.

Interesting thing about the insanity of clothing sizes is that when you have a girl/woman swear up and down that they are a perfect size 4, 6 or whatever you know they are lying because no one woman fits in the same size clothes from store to store or by manufacturer.

....don't get me started on bra sizes..

Ugh...I have clothes ranging anywhere from a 6 to a 14, partially due to screwed up sizes and the other part due to the way I have yo-yo'ed in the past few years. I hereby declair that Juniors sections in department stores be BANNED. I don't even bother with that, and haven't since I was about 16. My thighs and butt were NEVER as small as their clothes want, and I hated buying a size 12 jeans when I was at like 14% body fat.

Most of my day to day casual and work clothes are from JCrew, I LOVE that store...but even within one store, my clothing sizes vary! I have to buy a size 14 dress to fit in the chest and have it taken in everywhere else, and I am a size smaller in jeans than I am in skirts and khakis...makes no sense. And anything from there with a traingle type top (bikinis, tanks, dresses), FORGET it. They seem to forget that women have breasts when making those things.

And how am I different sizes between the Gap and Banana Republic when the are the same darn manufacturer?

I know I have already bitched about Abercrombie...seriously though, has my butt gotten bigger, or have their clothing sizes (which used to run big) decreased? I have shorts from there that are a size 6 from a few years ago, and I measured them up to a newer pair of Abercrombie shorts that are a 10 and they're the exact same size.

And yeah...bra sizes...according to the proper way to measure, which I swear I get done EVERY time I go bra shopping, I'm a 34D, but it would be nice if a 34D would ever FIT! I have bras in my drawer ranging from a 34D to a 36C, D, DD, even a 38D and 38DD! Although I have to brag, since losing about 8-10lbs so far, that area is looking quite nice :) Maybe a 34D actually will start to fit soon...

Story about the hell known as being in a wedding...my best friend from high school got engaged. This girl is a size 0-2 and very lean, despite never lifting a weight or dieting in her life. (Dont ya hate those people?) She was one of those girls who thinks the world needs to revolve around her while planning her wedding.

All of us in the wedding party were spread out all over, so she had us just go to our local David's, have a fitting, and call her with the size we needed because she had to order them all together. I was a 12 in "normal" dresses at the time, 8 everywhere else, but these things ran SMALL (and were hideous). So I decided on a size 16 partially so it fit enough up top, and I'd just have it taken in elsewhere, and also so that it was a little big because I had no clue what size I'd be when she got married 16 months later. I called her after my fitting (she lived in NC, I was in Ohio) and told her I needed her to order a 16 for me, since she was ordering all the dresses together. The bitch freaked out that I was ordering a dress "that big" and had the nerve to ask me to lose some weight before her wedding!!! She had asked her sister to do the same.

Luckily we got into an argument over some other things aside from this before she had a chance to order the dresses, I told her to forget it, I wasn't wasting my time being in her wedding if she was going to make everyone's lives miserable, and I haven't heard from her since.

Bra sizes! Oh dear Velvett...I agree. They are horrid. Bras in general seem to have been created by men who hated women. I figet around all day in them. I keep wanting to go to a little local shop that fits every bra custom. It would be worth the money...I'm just to lazy to do it.

Do you suppose they make wedding related dresses strange sizes so that bridal shops can make more money from doing alterations? Thankfully my gown fits like a glove and I only need alterations to shorten it an inch and bustle the back. But the rest of my girls are going to have to have the busts taken in. Apparently the bridesmaid dress designers think they're stacked like a barbie!
