Um, Yeah. I'm not in a union and get all those things. There is no laws in my state mandating 15 minute breaks or 'liveable straight time hourly wages' (lol minimum wage is liveable?)

Paid vacation, sick leave - management decides to grant these fringe benefits, they don't have to, yet I get them. I'm not in a union, according to your logic I must work for the best employer in the world

no you dont work for the best employer in the world. but let me tell you those wages and benefits you have are because of organized labor. unions have paved the way for all workers rights in the world.

whether or not you get pissed off at some oiler is besides the point. the oiler is an individual, not oraganized labor incarnate.

just the way i see it.

Unions are businesses -- nothing more. Businesses exist to make a profit and provide for their employees. The funny thing is that union workers aren't "owners" or "managers" of the union business -- they are the product. The union is always trying maximize revenue (raise union dues and recruit more people) but just like any other business, its also going to try to minimize costs (do as little as possible for its members).

Unions are an obsolete throwback from the early industrial age that are doing untold damage to American workers. Sure, a few guys get to sit-around doing nothing for $30/hour but all it does is insures that product (and the job associated with it) will get shipped overseas.

So enjoy! It's all part of the forces driving jobs out of the US and destroying the middle class.

unins are a business. but one thing to remember that a union has to fulfill its obligation to its members. i was plant chair at a pulp mill and have taken legal action against unions for not fullfilling their obligations.

once again, that was not oraganized labor as a whole, but a few lazy assholes in the hall.

what a joke

you get compensated for what you bring to the table, period.

jobs a monkey can do get compensated as such

you must have one of those jobs?

lmao, i totallly agree with what rnch is saying. i am a certified welder/millwright. i will tell you one thing, when the wages on this side of the world start to fail, tradesman will go to where they are higher. if canadians and americans think they can just find cheaper electricians or plumbers.. you can. you can find kids who don't have a clue what they are doing and cant learn cuase there is no one to show them. foreigners dont know piss from paint case if they were good they are where the money is.

i went on a tour to pakistan at a paper factory, outsourcing over there is a problem, a minor one. they can not supply steady power and properly maintain their equipment because qualified people leave for more money overseas. once we start paying less here, we will have the same problems.

Yup... he was using a pretty standard union tactic. You basically call anyone who wants to bargain for their own wages and working conditions personally a "management lackey".

God forbid someone demonstrate their worth in the market and be directly compensated for it.

don't get me wrong, i hate lazy assholes. but one must understand that the market and its wealth is really controlled by a few at the top. i work for a private company that does hundreads of millions in sales each year.

now i have been there 15 years, and every single news letter that comes with our checks say that the market is dead and doom and gloom. if it wasnt for my union they would say that there is no money to pay me my current wage.. and they would doctor their numbers to prove it. people at the top do that, both to unions and to the government.

in business there are no friends. no one will give you more than the bare minimum they have to. ie china, pakistan, india...

i'm all worked up and i'm heading out to the womens to get laid. i think we could all use the same medicine lol

The biggest lies you ever fall for are the ones you tell yourself -- and these guys are telling themselves some whoppers.

Do you realize how ridiculous this unsupported, unprovable statement is?

Rnch, if you and dololjub can maintain something so arbitrary, I guess you two also need to concede that if it weren't for Bush's war on terror that Bin Laden would have taken over the entire world by now and enslaved us all into an Islamic state. So I guess you owe George your entire life and livelihood -- Grats.

That kind of "you owe everything to us because if it weren't for us bad things would have happened" is crap at its finest.

As a matter of fact... let me throw one out there. CEO wages have outpaced the ordinary worker's wages considerably over the past 20-40 years. I maintain that the reason they have escalated at a faster pace is because CEO's don't have unions. Now, since I've thrown this "fact" out there like dolojub did above, I guess it must be true as well. So I guess unions have cost ordinary workers a fortune in missed wage opportunities.
