barefoot for squats and deadlift or anything lower body, any shoe for the other stuff
Unlike wimmins, the old saying "The more the cushion, the better the pushin'" does not apply to weightlifting shoes.

I now wear my chucks on ohp day. I pressed in trainers last week and lost my balance backwards while lowering the bar. Luckily it was a warm up set with 135. If it was a limit set I could have jacked my back up big time. Solid soles are very important.
