The Heavier White Women Are, The Less They Earn

The interviewer who told me I was too pretty was a male. He told me he didn't want the other workers to be "distracted". GIVE ME A ROYAL BREAK!! I work my ass off and dont spend all day walking around the office batting my eyelashes and bending over to pick up my pencil!! Besides I am too busy checking out the elite boards to spend time "distracting" people!!

Can also be said that MEN no matter the height or weight will make MORE money than a female in the same job position!

WarLobo's right, Vixenbabe (but I love your picture -- great muscularity.)

"MEN no matter the height or weight will make MORE money than a female in the same job position!"

This has been a dogma of feminist rhetoric for many years, but it simply isn't true. Let me put that more strongly: it's a LIE. And it's doubtful it ever was true BECAUSE ...

... if it ever had been true, tell me why every company in America didn't simply fire all the men and hire women? If they can get women to do the same jobs just as well for less money, it would be a bonanza for the bottom line to fire men and hire all women. Why has no company ever done this? Because that particular piece of feminist propaganda never was true.

Women tend to move in and out of jobs more than men, and they tend to major in subjects in college that lead to lower paying careers (education or the humanities, for example, rather than engineering and science).

From this reality it's easy to massage the statistics to come up with results like "Women make 70 cents on the dollar of what men make." A little further massage, one could produce the opposite "finding". You can prove anything with statistics.

When I was hiring people for the the L.A. school district, I hired overwhelmingly women over male applicants who either were less qualified or just didn't seem as suitable to me. Having done much to push and promote the careers of lots of women, I get tired of nasty feminist put-downs that say everyone with a penis is a sexist monster who wants to keep women barefoot and pregnant and out of the workplace.

Too much hardcore feminism scapegoats men for women's shortcomings. Now if only I could find anyone who will listen while I blame MY shortcomings on women ...
:fro:

WarLobo's point

Warlobo makes a great point about women declining high level promotions because they sensibly want a more balanced life where they can actually see their home and family occasionally.

Lots of workaholic men drop dead shortly after retirement because work is all they know how to do. The ability to balance family obligations with workplace ones in a sensible and healthy way is something men are learning from women these days. Women are leading the way.

Here's karma to you Warobo for your points and especially your startlingly beautiful metaphor of the glass celing being like a mirror. That's Nobel-quality writing right here on the EF boards -- who would have suspected! Also karma to you, Vixenbabe, for initiating this conversation.

I would not hire a fat person if I could find a thinner person with the same skills. It's that simple.

And you could be sued. And should be, if it ever came to that. All your rationalizatons notwithstanding.

Thanks, George. I'm with spatterson, though: "This is news??"

I posted something on the chat boards once but deleted it. It was about women and body image (some guy posted this thread and I was silly and responded.)

Anyway, the annual expenditure on the beauty industry in America is greater than the ANNUAL FEDERAL BUDGET FOR EDUCATION and the ENTIRE GROSS NATIONAL PRODUCT OF IRELAND.

Isn't that something?! Americans spend more to look purty than some nations spend to exist. Because women know that meeting standards of beauty equals POWER and CURRENCY in America.

Did you guys happen to catch the TV Guide (yes, I have no life) that introduced all the new Fall shows? On the cover was three women who looked identical, and TV Guide even put them in the SAME OUTFITS!! Ladies and gents, the INTERCHANGEABLE WOMAN!!

But on the inside of the magazine, the men came in all shapes and sizes. All hairlines and age ranges, too.

For me, you have to look no further than shows like _NYPD Blue_, _Law and Order_, and _Homicide_. On the men side, you have Dennis Franz, Gordon Clapp, Jerry Orbach, Yaphet Kotto--wrinkly, craggly, flabby men who are supposed to be revered for their "character."

On the women side, you have Carey Lowell, Angie Harmon, Kim Delaney, Michael Michelle--ALL OF THEM FORMER OR CURRENT MODELS. Talking about cleansing pores or adding highlights to their hair in commercials that air every 5 minutes.

Sorry to use this thread to vent, it's a deeply felt issue with me.

Warlobo and Ercole,

Very vaild points, and one's I can relate VERY well with on many levels.

I'm curious as to where the "new women" fit into the scheme of Corporate America? "New Women" are the ladies who are waiting to put the family and babies on hold until they reach the top rung of the corporate ladder?

Do these women, who travel, work the late hours, and reek of spread sheet blues, still make the same salaries? Times are changing,Gents! Buttt...it seems to remain the same on salary levels in regards to women.

No disrespect meant..Nor am I a bra burner. I've just witnessed some disjustice to hard working women- past and present!

Peace!

Wow I guess I found one of buksoon's buttons and pushed it! Good, aside from the obvious fact that a large proportion of American's are obese, many also have this incredible lawsuit mentality which is downright sick by world standards, as is their grossly excessive expenditure on beauty products and health care for diseases which could/should have been prevented in the first place. America is not alone in this (all developed countries suffer from this to a certain extent). Political correctness gone crazy along with a belief that it MUST be someone else's fault (whatever may be wrong with your life) and someone else MUST pay (so I'll sue). I'll lose karma for this, and eventually get voted off the boards, but IF ALL ELSE IS EQUAL between two people, but one of them is obese, then why would I choose the obese person unless there were laws/quotas/affirmative action etc.. that forced me to?? This is not the same as discriminating against someone because of race, religion or skin colour. There is no sound evidence to support notions that people of different races or ethnicity's have better or worse long term health. But there is plenty of actuarial evidence to support the belief that obesity, cigarette smoking, alcoholism etc.. really DO effect a person's long term health. Insurance companies can discriminate based on these physical facts, so why can't employers?

Aside from that I agree with WarLobo's assessment of the glass mirror. I am a female who has clearly and repeatedly chosen lifestyle over promotions and pay increases. You keep the money, this girl just wants to have some fun ;)

Amen MS! Speaking about my country, the US, there has been such a decline of personal responsibility. While the Declaration of Independence says we have the right to pursue happiness; it does NOT guarantee it. That's where freedom, self-determination, and all those other nice things (that a lot of other countries don't have) come in.

But for many, those very points have been forgotten or never learned. (Let's see, who can we blame for that?) We even have laws telling people to wear seat belts!!! We're wasting valuable resources enforcing laws to protect people from themselves!?

Check this out, Vixenbabe! When I was a teacher interested in becoming a principal, my principal called me into his office. (He was black and a very good friend.)

"I just want to save you a lot of trouble. There won't be another white male principal in the Los Angeles Unified School District for at least 25 years. Trust me."

Injustice is a pain, but it happens to all of us, eventually, for this or that reason. Got to keep your chin up.
