The Ephedra Epidemic

The Badass

New member
Well, another person has died from abuse of an ephedra product, and this time it was a baseball player...someone sorta in the spotlight. So now, as expected, anti-supplement folks are coming out and screaming that all ephedra based products should be banned.

My question is why?

Out of all the fatalities that have ever been linked to ephedra and ephedrine (same thing), each and every one of those deaths was due to the consumer NOT following the directions on the bottle. In the case of the Orioles player, he had a pre-exisiting condition, high blood pressure and he KNEW he had it. In addition to that, he took THREE Xenadrine pills before going to a spring training workout....it was almost an inevitability that he would encounter some kind of problems that day. The recommended dosage is two pills MAXIMUM at any give dosage time, and to not exceed six pills a day. He pumped himself with 75mg of ephedrine! Then he went to work out which made him sweat and dehydrate himself even more! Any ECA is going to be stronger if you are not properly hydrated. Well, I don't want to speak ill of the dead, however before people start claiming ECA's are murderers, they should look at the facts first, but of course no one ever does that.

Over the course of this year, I can almost guarantee that every major sport will ban the use of these supplements...and for what....because people cannot be responsible and follow simple directions? Ridiculous.

Soon after, you will start seeing all the fat burners eliminate their real products and replace them will all these half-ass fat burners with the words "EPHEDRA FREE" splashed all over it. And it will not sell. Whoever says that stuff works even remotely as well as the real thing, is kidding themselves cause they don't want to face the fact they wasted their money.

I for one will be stocking up on my ECA's pretty soon before the inevitable ban occurs. But isn't it a shame that those of us who actually know how to follow directions will lose out on a very good over the counter fat-burner because some over-zealous, irresponsible dipshits had heart attacks or lost their lives cause they couldn't read the damn label?

Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.

Agree totally, follow the f'n directions people. Do you pop 6 asprin with the label say's 2? No, but if people did and started dieing there wouldn't be a rush to ban asprin.

What rock have you been living under?

All major sports already HAVE banned ephedra.

Every major ECA brand has already has an Ephedra free version.

And as far as anything without Ephedra not working, ever heard of NYC?

DO some research before you go spouting this nonsense.

JC

I would assume that a Ban on Ephederine would lead to a ban on NYC since it has norepinepherine. But hopefully they will overlook that/not be knowledgeable about it.

thanks to ephedra i can see my abs for the first time ever ive lost about 30 pounds with it over 4-5 months cycling it. Never once did I have anything more then minor bad side effects. I agree and think its absolutely ridiculous theyre trying to an it. BTW im almost 19 6' 3 220 pounds and around 11 % bf...

norephedrine was already pulled by the FDA. it was in some otc cold medicines, but they all have to get rid of the norephedrine (or PPA) in them. that's why biotest, syntrax, and a few others stopped making their norephedrine based fat burners. i don't know that it's been officially banned and made a prescription drug like they're trying to do with ephedra though.

PPA (phenylpropanolamine) and norephedrine are two separate drugs.

The major sports have not banned ephedra, only the NFL and NHL have. Baseball banned it in the minors and the NBA hasn't done anything yet.

so let's see, last week one baseball player died from epherine (bullshit ...he died from dehydration, high bp and reduce calorie died )

But 90+ peple died from a night club fire..no one is sceamimg to ban night clubs!
In all likely hood 1000+ people died frm Doctors mistakes last week ( according to the AMA over 90,000 people died in 1999 from Doctor errors) don't see anyone screaming to ban Doctors
in all likely hood 300-500 people died from drunk driving accidents.. but I can still buy alcohol at a NIGHTCLUB!

i agree in most cases any bad incidents that are E related, the consumer using did not follow proper instructions, such as taking not recommended dosage, or not consulting physician first. Hell i am sure if someone died from taking too much tylenol cause they had a headache, tylenol would be under heat aswell
