The Best Birth Control?

What type of birth control do you use? (oral) What do you think has the least amount of side effects?

I think its more a matter of finding one that works best w/ your body chemistry. I used one called trilevelin / triphasal for yrs - very low progesterone / estrogen doses. If tried anything else, I got mega cramps and constant breakthru bleeding. Since competing I've been off all of it so they may have come up w/ some better ones lately. The really low dose ones will probably cause the least amount of water retention, etc. But again all subject to how well they work w/ your body chemistry.

Okay, not a whole lot of response of this one, maybe I should get to the point~~ I tried the IUD and that was a complete nightmare. Now, I am using Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and regular ortho, I kinda of alternate and yes so far so good. I have put on a few pounds,(5-7) at the most, but: I am wondering if any of you have better luck? I wanted to try the seasonal. You know the one you can take for 3 months straight, but I would probably take a pregnancy test weekly, JUST IN CASE. LET US REMIMBER my IUD was found in the shower. If I would not have found it, I would be sooooo pregnant right now!!! So, anyway, I am looking for "THE BEST" I suppose! If there is such a thing! I have even thought of the patch , but that can not look "SUPER HOT" in a bikini.....right?

I have tried Alesse, ortho-tri, triphasil... and am now on Yasmin.. without a doubt Yasmin has been the best for me.(also the most expensive! :worried: )
but you really have to try out different kinds and see whats best for your body

Its pretty much what tomer said - I've been off for a while because of competition (and lack of action :worried: ) so I'm sure there is better stuff than what I've used - but what I've used works perfectly w/ my body chemistry - I'd been on the same prescription for like 15 yrs.

The patch and the ones that you only need to take every 3 months or whatever - these I think tend to be higher dosages and cause breakthru bleeding and I've heard a lot about more water retention, etc. I would probably not use those for that simple reason. You can google all of them by brand name and get the details.

But its still back to what works best w/ your body chemistry. I think of all of them Yasmin has been mentioned the most often as a very mild one.

i've been on the patch now for about 2 years. I gained a bit of weight, but i'm not entirely sure it's from the birth control :D haha I've never had bleeding between periods, and since i'm absolutely HORRIBLE about remembering to take pills, it's one of the few options that i had. i'm not keen on the idea of having something implanted in my arm, or anywhere else. the only complaint i really have about it, is that it's like having a bandaid on your butt for a week straight so, a few days in, you end up with that black ring around it and it's not the most appealing looking thing (that's where i decided to put mine, because it's the only place that isn't visible during the summer in a bikini, and i was a lifeguard, so... i spent quite a bit of time in a bathingsuit). but, whatever. if he's looking at me naked, i doubt he's really concerned about a patch on my rear end. lol

I also tried the neuva ring for a few months. it just never fit well for me and came out of place a lot so sex was uncomfortable with it in, and taking it out before sex was just annoying. if you can get it to fit properly, then it's a really great option if you're bad at remembering to take pills. put it in, leave it there for 3 weeks and there's no worrying if you forgot to take a pill one day.

There is no BEST birth control. There is only what works best for you, everyone is different. I tried 3 different pills and had major problems with all of them but then finally the 4th one was a Godsend. I am now taking Yasmin as well, and I love it. The drsp helps you not to retain water and it also blocks testosterone, so my acne (which was severe) has nearly disappeared. But again I have heard of people who have major problems on Yasmin too. (Most common side is lack of sex drive, which I find a bit but I was crazy over the top before so I think it just brought me down to normal levels.)

I used Loestrin Fe with great success. It is low estrogen.

I am currently using the Minipill - it is NO estrogen, but also has to be taken with more accuracy due to the lower hormones. I like it fine, but the only reason I am using it is it is the only BCP that is breastfeeding-friendly. When I stop breastfeeding, I will likely go back to Loestrin Fe.

i take the ortho tri lo and its fine if i take it right before i go to bed. At first when i took it my body didnt really like it but now im perfectly fine. I have never taken it during the day so i dont know about that, but i havent gained any weight just i can see that i have some water siting on my stomach now because you use to be able to see my abs better and it was almost imidiate that i saw this change the first time i took the pill i woke up the next day and BOOM there it was but i still take them and just work out my mid even more thinking it will make it go away? :)
