Have you ever used the amino acid L-Taurine as a sleep aid ?

Sleep aid?? I don't think it could be useful for that. Taurine is on most of those "Energy Drinks" like Red Bull. It seem taurine is used as an ergogenic aid instead of sleep aid.

:chomp:

Actually Taurine + caffeine = jitters

BUT

Taurine also functions as a neuroregulator and nerve cell growth factor.
It promotes a calming effect by inhibiting the release of norepinephrine and acetylcholine, and stimulating the release of GABA
Taurine increases the production of serotonin and melatonin by stimulating the activity of N-acetyltransferase, resulting in normalization of sleep and nerve functioning.
(Chapman, G.W. and Greenwood, C.E. Taurine in Nutrition and Brain Development. Nutri Res 1988;8:955-68.)

....though I have never tried Taurine for falling asleep

negative on the taurine for a sleep aid (err, I never took it for that reason)

I've been using melatonin ;)

Do you mean L-Tryptophan?

No, L-Taurine

But I wish I could find some cheap L-Tryptophan :)

l-tryptophan !

that is a real sleep aid!. There are a lot of foods containing it. Some milk with sugar before bed could give you a pleasant sleep (milk is rich in tryptophan)
