Tall guys vs Shorter guys

Why is it that I see tall guys that are extremely strong, but also see shorter guys that are not as strong but are far more muscular?

Is it something to do with longer muscles or more area to cover or what.

It seems to take an age for us taller dudes to actually look likke we workout, but strength wise you could be stronger than a shorter dude who looks totally jacked

Yet have you noticed that once you do finally start putting on weight, you look absolutely huge and people look intimidated around you??

I dunno, maybe I am going crazy

I agree 100%.
Tall peoples muscles are longer for the most part and it takes awhile for them to look thick. I am tall and it took a long time to look big. When you see a picture of me, I may not look that big- but if you saw me in person you would think I was pretty huge.

Sorter folks definitely have an advantage in simpler lever issues in basic, compound lifts.

I'm 6'3", and I have to be very carefull when going heavy with deads, for example, but shorter guys don't have as far to travel because of shorter limbs, and have a far easier time lifting heavy, to my experinece.

I thought I was bad because I finally got to the 5 plate club in deads (500lbs) for 3 reps, and the next day I observed a guy about 5'5" doing sets of 10 at 425, and he didn't look too put out at all.

Back to the drawing board...

It's true - shorter guys have an advantage in compound lists, and have an easier time looking thick. However, a little fat is very noticeable as well. I am 5'5 and at my age, you would consider I juice. But really, it's just because I am short. 5'5 @ 183lbs 12% now and gaining.
All my life I've been short though, and it does not bother me. So long as I am getting bigger - I don't care.

blood drinker, I am also 5' 5" but I only weigh 155. I am working on reaching 170 within the next 8 weeks or so.
Have you posted any pics? I'd be interested in seeing what I can aspire to...

How do you do deadlifts at 6'3? I'm 6'1 and have the problem of the bar scraping my knees on every rep. How do you get past that? The only options are kneepads (uh, no) or use lighter weight, which defeats the purpose of lifting heavy.

No I've never posted pics - I'm not ready to - yet. I want to be cut for the photos . The look I am working for is Nathan's I believe. He is 5'6, 8%bf about, and 186lbs. I am working on his arm size. I hope to look like that or similar for the pics.

Furious,
I am 6'3 and I can deadlift without scraping. You have to really concentrate on your technique, but you can do it! You could also wear wind pants and you should be okay.

I love the scars that I have on my shins from deadlifting...great topic of conversation with women. I figure if they can see them and not be totally disgusted...they are a good woman for me:)

I am 6'2" and a pretty big bone framed guy. I wear a 16-17 shoe with very very long arms. heck...my arm is close to 20" cold and they still dont' look huge because they are so darn long. It just takes longer to look huge...but it comes in handy for my strongman events.

I have scraped plenty of times.

In fact, I'm bugging my gym owner to invest in a trap bar (the one that looks like <>) so the knees/shins won't be an issue.
