Taking temperature

Shadow-

Can you re-explain the importance of taking your temp, what it means, etc? I bought one today and want to start using it. I read Bunny's log, but can you tell me what the numbers mean? What range should I be in?

Thanks!

It depends on a lot of things....especially if you are NOT on OC....

Temp is a pretty good indicator of basic metabolism.......start taking it FIRST THING AM....before you even get out of bed.....keep a log...notic what your trend is Pre-men...ovulations and post men.

Find out what YOUR average is.

Now, I personally feel that 97.8 is optimum for fat burning....lower carb diets tend to drop Thyroid function to some degree...loss of muscle mass will also cause similar.

Is this an exact science??

No.....but it IS a pretty damn good indicator imo.

Thank you! I'm taking an OC does that change anything? So, only take it in the A.M? I took mine tonight and it was 98.0. I'll start tommorow morning.

Ahhhh, now THAT is a post I'll agree with! lol

ONLY thing I would add is to make sure you temp every AM at the EXACT same time (or within about 15 min). Temp will rise about .1 degree for every half-hour later you sleep, and lower .1 degree for every half-hour earlier you take it. FOr it to be accurate, it should be at the same time EVERYday.

:worried:

Ohhh, crap...

Babe, I TOLD you this a couple weeks ago! I told you to take it at the SAME time everyday ... in the post in Girls Talk!

Yes, I know you did.... I "Oh crapped" cuz I just don't wake up at the same time every day....

SET YOUR ALARM! I wake up at the same time, even on weekend. No, I don't get out of bed at the same time, I take my temp and fall back asleep. Keep paper by the bed so you can write it down if you are forgetful :)

Best thermometer is a BBT (basal body thermo) - it is the most accurate, it measures to the hundreths. Regular fever thermo only measure to the tenths. Eitehr is fine, but BBT is more accurate. :)

I'll have to start doing that.....

I've been using one of those old-fashioned glass thermometers...
