Sure, you can hit hard.... BUT Can you take a hit?

Sure we all train to hit. How about getting hit? can you take a hard shot to the chin or the liver and stay on your feet and keep fighting?

I think thats what really separates the "good fighters" from the "champion fighters". These guys can get clocked pretty hard and recover from it to keep fighting.

How about you, what is your experience with taking hard shots?

I took a hard Cross to the Chin people watching thought would knock me out and I was fine
can't be sure about the liver or templeyet but if this thread is still around I'll update you

I think liver shots really take it out of you. You can get rocked with a punch to the jaw and recover fairly quickly while still on your feet. You take a shot to the liver and it would take it a couple of hours to feel right again. Like George Foreman says, a shot to the body is "Money in the bank" because the after effects stay with the fighter thru the whole fight, as oppose to the shot to the head that you can bounce back from in betweent rounds.

Haven't fought recently, in a ring or out, but I've taken some real solid headshots from some hard hitting guys and recovered well.(although sometimes I see stars and birds and stuff circling my head for a few seconds).
Remember kids, if you get clocked in a real fight, tie-up with the guy immediately (as tight of a hug as you can give). Hold on to his body and arms as much as you can while you try to recover. My 2 cents.
A lot of guys instinctively back up, opening themselves for more ass-whipping.
I've never been hit with a very clean liver shot though, I see how it could suck.

I got hit so fucking hard in my liver when I was fighting a lot and in great shape. I didn't feel right until I woke up the next day.

I used to Box as an amateur. Never felt any of the puches until the adrenaline wore off a few hours after the fight. Even when hit in the chin and saw stars it never hurt right away. I'm sure if Tyson hit me though the result would be immediate.

Ive been Stabbed a few times , cut more times than I can count the scars , Shot 2x , Hit with Tables , Chairs , Barstools , 3 guitars (one Resonator , one Stratocaster) , two Basses (both Electric) , billiards balls , billiard cues , Poliece Batons (multiple) a Van when I was on my Bike , a Limo when I was on my Bike , Bottles , Glasses , Plates , a Cast Iron Frying Pan , an Iron ....

Ive been hit with a LOT of crap .

Have yet to be knocked out though .

In fact , I recently went to the Dentist and they gave me 21 times the anesthetic and I was still fully conscious and talking (well , it kind of sounded like the Peanuts Teacher) the entire time . By the end of the thing every Dentist in the building was standing about (seriously , there were like 3 ppl at first and over 20 when we were done) watching him Load my ass up with "Anesthesia" . HE just kept saying "Hit Him Again !"

Oddly enough , my Oral Surgeon looked like the Creepy old guy from Phantasm .

Never been knocked out, but I've come close.

I'll echo what others have said:

Body shots take more out of a guy than head shots. They seem to stick around and remind you of what just happened.

I have to say that this depends on the thicknbess of your abdominal wall . If youre obsessed woth your Abs , I can see this being an Issue , but if youve got the "gut" of a powerlifter you stop feeling that mess after a while ,and they shake off more like regular hits .

ive taken a liver shot from behind by a guys buddy while trying to get him out of a bar, didnt phase me till after, then it hurt like shit.

also been cut with a knife, didnt keep fighting cuz buddy ran away but didnt fall down either

yah being big makes you a target
kind of like in highschool
I wasn't that big till late middleschool or early highschool
but all through school if someone got the notion that you were tough or could fight skillfully (and one punch often made it appear you were skillful cus bullies are mostly just cowards) and everybody wanted to prove themselves, on you : o (
teachers used to sit me next to bullies and wait
bastards

I have a gut and I'm good on bodyshots
straight ones anyway
now a shot to my ribs
I can't make any promises

When you get hit good in the face, you get that pain you can taste. That is when fight or flight kicks in. You can see it when the guy either gets real intense or cowers and covers his head. KO'ing someone requires you to hit them with either tremendous force or hit them at the right angle to the head. A good upper cut or cross to the side of the chin can KO anyone.

The champion fighters are champions, not just becasue they can take a shot, but mainly because they AVOID/ABSORB those shots better.

after last night I learned I can take three shots to the face, one I believe broke my nose and one knocking me out for a second on my feet, and still stand up and finish the fight with me coming out better then the other guy

Sounds like a good story, please elaborate...

check out my story on this board about me not being lucky it explains it there, anything I left out ill fill in once I sober up

I once had my jaw busted. Someone hit me with their fist and when I went down, witnesses said he kicked me in the head. So I don't know what it was that broke my jaw, the punch or the kick. I won't say that that incident proves I can't take a punch. Maybe I can, maybe I can't, but that incident is too muddled to take away a definitive answer.

As far as body shots are concerned, I once broke a guys rib with a straight punch. At the time I didn't have the slightest idea on how to throw a hook, so I just used a straight punch. It was awkward as he was shorter than me. From that I learned ribs break easy. At least I think they do, though if anyone else disagrees, feel free to chime in. I also like the idea of body shots in some but not all circustances as there are no lingering marks that can be photographed and presented as evidence as there would be on a face. Then again, maybe there would be bruising, but to most people the bruising would be covered up by clothing and thus inconspicuous.

liver shots suck ass.

it gives you this really queasy feeling for at least 30 minutes afterwards.

In competition I knocked down alot of guys with liver shots that kicks to the head.
