Such thing as TOO MUCH aerobic exercise?

you dont need to have double sessions of cardio at this time, 1 morning session of 30-60 mins will do the job, you want to save the double sessions for when your body starts to plateau with the single sessions. I didnt look at the type of cardio you are doing, but if you want to maintain as much muscle as possible while cutting the fat, you shouldnt be doing 30 mins of intense cardio, something light would be your best bet, such as a steady walk on an incline. Keep this in mind, it takes your body approximately 20 mins to burn off the glucose that your body has before it starts to burn fat, and also, if your heart rate goes too high, you stop burning fat and your body will actually tap into your protein stores for energy, that is why you dont want to get too intense with your cardio.

Here is what will burn fat, in order of importance:

1) a clean diet
2) weight training
3) cardio

If you eliminate weights, you are shooting yourself in the foot.

Your metabolism is partially controlled by genetics. But a large part of it is controlled by muscle mass. The more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn.

Muscle is built through weight training, not cardio.

Cardio in a caloric deficit and NO weight training = disaster for your metabolism.

I am 6'0 and 260 pounds. I want to get down to 220 and then go serious weight training. 40 pounds. So 2 times a day is cool --- good to know!

This is a BIG misconception: "I want to loose the fat first and then start lifting"...

A balanced program includes all three components: Lifting, Cardio and Diet, from the start. They complement each other, so start lifting right away and get yourself a well planned diet.

I can recommend 125% you read Tom Venuto's book "Burn the Fat, feed the muscle" to get you jum-started in the knowledge you need.

Your case is very similar to mine. Check out how I started here:

is burning 500 calories too much cardio? (takes me about an hour and 20 minutes)

I can burn 500 cal in 50 min .....

I think you are doing too low intensity. I would ramp it up a bit, and lower the time.

Of course, it also depends on your goals, current BF%, and diet. :)

No, not health-wise. Your heart is getting a good workout.

But for fat loss and muscle mass sparing, it isn't a great idea.
