Stopping Smoking!!!

Nohaters78

New member
Ok Bro's, I need to stop smoking for obvious health reasons. Also, I intend on doing far more cardio this time around then ever before due to my fat freaking stomach that somehow grew after marriage and spending 18 months out of the gym. Does anyone have any suggestions that maybe I haven't considered?? I have always been a smoker, this will be my 7th cycle and I am aware of the effects that smoking has on gains, not to mention overall health and I have to say enough is enough!!!! I know that I will NEVER be able to attain my reduced body fat goals as long as I continue to puff away!! So, any Ideas other then just cold turkey??

speechless @ smoker on cycle

i cant believe that there are people who smoke & go to the gym on a regular basis.

Still common in Europe.
Rationale? They're addicted to a hardcore drug.
I was there Bro. Good luck.
It took me 2 1/3 years of quiting cold turkey with several short binge smoking incidents before I was able to quit for good.
NEVER admit defeat. If you have a set back, quit again the 1st of the following month. Substituting a hot beverage (tea) for cigs helps. The sipping action simulates a puff, and by holding on to the cup you mimic the hand to mouth action. Many quiters have trouble not knowing what to do with their hands, as they used to always be holding a smoke.
It'll be 12 years April 1st, since my last cig. Yeah for me!!!

I have heard the subsitution method works well.

quitting sucks anyway you look at it, so be prepared for that first of all. There is nothing that makes it super easy.

I found that using the gum really does help. The gum is obviously nowhere as satisfying as an actual cigarette, and don't expect it to be. But if you stick with it, you will be father along in a week or so that you would be a month of cold turkey. Just remember that in the end it will be the greatest move you have ever made in your life.

one of my best friends died of lung cancer 2yrs ago, he was a heavy smoker, only 46yrs old, very sad to watch him gasp for air. if u ever watch someone do that it might hit home.

I quit 5 years ago bro. It was the hardest thing I ever gave up. (incl blow.) I still dream about it every now and then.

You will notice a difference in about a month. Everything tastes better, smells better, etc. And you will be FUCKING amazed at how much better things will be in the gym. Endurance will shoot thru the roof.

I quit with the help of the nicotine inhaler. My friends all made fun of me because they said it looked like I was sucking a tampon. But the jokes on them now cause I quit and they failed. Just pick a day, smoke your last cig and never, ever touch them again. Not even a drag.

Good luck bro.

low doses of xanax helped me tremenously! took the nerves and cravings away, but not the "my friend" factor. Get bored really quickly. And, when your jonesing for a smoke there is a very good feeling when you take that first drag after a long time, especially with coffee in the morning. Xan really helped me with that, even the short term memory loss was a help. Now, getting off Xan was a real problem!

A lot of being addicted to nicotine is psychological I've heard.

lol ur prolly a xanax addict now

i have been smoke free for over 2 years now, and i quit by using wellbutruin, its and anti-depress, but it makes u not have that strong crave, keep in mind u need to have the discpline to say i'm quiting or it will never work i smoked a pack a day, and being former military it was hard to quit cause everyone else did. but you smell better, breath better, when you talk to people they don't cringe, and you become a smoke hater. but go to your doc get those pills it took me only a month of useage and i just stay quiting.

Dont know what this has to do with anabolics, But what its worth i smoked since i was 16. Then about a year ago i would only smoke when i was drinking. Then about 6 months ago i just didnt crave a ciggarete. That shit is all mental bro. Just think it turns your teeth yellow, your breath stanks, your cloths fuckin reek, oh AND IT FUCKING KILLS YOU!!!! Does your wife smoke? If she does then both of you have to stop. Just do it, its all fucking mental.

Try sucking on hot barely legal 18 year old nips.
This should take your mind off smoking 100%

BigGuy Public Service Message.

Chantix. Chantix. Chantix.

It is not nicotine replacement, and is not an anti-depressant (wellbutren will raise your blood pressure). It loads the nicotine receptors so you get no cravings, and also inhibits any relaxation if you did smoke. I took it and was smoke free in 7 days. Easy. Also, insurance covers it, but if you have no insurance, it is $108 a month for two months (cheaper than smoking).

Most prominent side effect is vivid dreams (crazy sh*t). Other sides include nausea and depression (depression in those who have or had depression). I had none of the latter side effects.

Check into it. It is your best weapon against nicotine addiction. It will not help your will power months down the road though, it only helps stop the addiction, the rest is up to you.

No haters I used the patch, started out with 14mg and then went to 7mg. of course you must have discipline also but the patch helps. I have found it is the routine that you associtate with smoking. Try to change your habits, If you did something that followed with smoking/chewing, then attempt to alter that si as not to have that temptation.

Good Luck

your an ex smoker?

Sadly, yes...I smoked for 2 years! Worst 2 years of my life! When I got off, my life got better! I was stronger and had a lot more endurance! A big part of it is psychological I believe, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to stop completely in less than a week.

That crap gives you the shits, fucked up dreams and upset stomach. Didn't work for me at all. It also has a nice little side effect not listed on the packaging. Chantix has been linked to extreme aggression in MEN. So if you are on the sauce and taking this shit look out. My Dad told me about the the aggression when his doctor brought it up. Be careful with this one. Whatever works for you to quit, more power to you. This was just really bad for me.

Well, being an ex-smoker, I know all the appeal that smoking has in terms of killing time, chillin and "blowin away" your troubles...however, it's not too late to stop smoking...all you need is some determination, will power, and support from friends...I'm tellin u it won't be easy, but plan it out, make a thread about it, and post in the thread every additional day you haven't smoked and myself and the other members on this forums will do everything that we can to support your decision and encourage you. It really isn't that hard when you learn how bad smoking is for the lungs, teeth, gums, etc...

Dude tobacco is the hardest thing to quit, period. I don't smoke but every once in a while I pick up a can of dip. nasty nasty stuff that is so addictive i can't even explain it.

Its hard for people who've never picked up these nasty habits to understand.

In 1920 the Tour De France athletes smoked cigs like they were going out of style the whole race because back then they thought it was a vasodilator. Check this months issue of MD there is a pic its funny as fuck.

I've had drug and alcohol addictions - cigarettes were by far more difficult to quit than either of those.

total BS (tell that to the crack, heroin, & meth junkies). i do all to well understand addiction.

anyways my point for the 2nd time was not so much about the smoking but why bother going to the gym and act like u r healthy.

now that this is the topic, i smoke (on and off cycle) wish i didnt tho. ive had many failed attempts to stop. 1 thing i have noticed is that i tend to crave and smoke more while 'on'. could this be to do with the fact that 'on' ur producing more blood cells therefore needing more nicotine to keep u sane.

on a side note, im sure smoking hinders gains. but how badly could it effect gains?

Thanx to all that have been supportive and trying to help out, for everyone else out there, you know who you are.. Maybe try spending your time coming up with something useful to say instead of just talking because you like the sound of your own voice!!! I just love self important people!! in all the years that I have been on this forum I have done my best to help out bro's with problems that they've had, If I could anyway. I just don't personally see the point in "Trying" to flame someone because they are reaching out for help, it's what you call COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE, but maybe your right. Screw it I smoke so maybe I should just give up on trying to quit, oh and while I'm at it I think I'll never set foot in the gym again and possibly pick up a meth habit... get real!!! IT IS AN ADDICTION, IT IS DIFFICULT TO STOP!!! I "DO" PLAN TO STOP!!! Oh, and I think I WILL STAY IN THE GYM!!!!

8and20 said:
U miss the point old man. I was talking about why bother going to the gym!

Read the rules asshole. No flaming.... or don't they apply to you.
You're starting to piss me off with the "old man" shit! So knock it the fuck off.

im in the same boat...in fact im having a delicious snap right now. dentist told me i have perfect teeth, why quit? haha :P
i hear ya man...whats better than a big dip after a hard workout or big steak?

i smoke occosaionally and when cutting more often. I dont like smoke a pack everyday or anything, mostly a pack tops a week and usually end up bumming a quarter the pack. An amateur bodybuilder i know smokes when cutting too.

skoal

wellbutrin-just watch the bp, it also gives a lil energy kick and wont cause weight gain

or cold turkey if your strong enough, but Id just cut back to begin with

Im no angel and I doubt many of us are. I know plenty of guys who smoke. Dont sweat it, but you do need to quit. It will kill you or a loved one from second hand smoke.

Trust me. My wife went through chemo and had to listen to some old fuck talk about how smoking was fine and his wife never smoked and she died of lung cancer. Stupid ass didnt even realize he was the one who killed her with his smoking.

I guess ignorance is bliss.

u r on my last nerve. u r the one who decided to call me out without full understanding. i was simply calrifying for u so there would be no future misinterpretation.

the old man reference was endearing as i have always meant it. there is no flaming. i dont get bent out of shape when u make "young jokes" (though u r barely old enough to even be my father). u have never once said before u didnt like the playful banter (which u so willing have taken part of). so check yourself there was no flaming. u have gotten into a very bad habit here lately of blowing up at people.

Nobody on this board is perfect(at least I hope not). Some of us do smoke, dip, pop pills, snort coke, smoke the mary and do drink.........all on cycle. Im guessing 90% Of us are grouped in there somewhere.

Id start a poll but it would completely turn into a rec and narc thread so Ill pass.

I don't believe this..... You are WAAY too full of yourself,

I told you 2 months ago we should play it straight...remember.

Who goes to the Gym for health?
Competitive bodybuilders don't.

Could everyone please stop with the ad hominem bullshit?.

The roid forum is for an exchange of knowledge with a minimum of drama.

The thing most often mentioned as a reason for old members returning to EF's anabolics forum is the new lack of flaming.

theres good info in this thread and I'm too tired to clean out the baloney, so I moved this to Chat.

harm reduction
if you gotta use tobacco, dip is a better choice than smoking is
still harmful and nasty, but a lot less deadly.

agree agree agree agree

no one is 100% healthy and I'm not sure I'd even want to hang around anyone who was.

boring!

I am not a competitive BB by the way. For me it is about my health. It is a lifestyle.

I have highlighted the 2 on your list I am actively or have in the past. There is some element of risk, I admit, but imo nothing in comparison to smoking. You and I both know in healthy adult males that careful long term aas use just isn't the myriad of health problems like the media portrays.

This video has been posted a million time but it is always a good reminder.

I agree that steroids is usually less harmfull than smoking. I'm in no way anti-steroid.
My point is, even those who smoke, can improve their quality of life via exercise. They'll never reach they're full potential while smoking, but some fitness is better than none.

I've read that a healthy active smoker is "healthier" than a non active fatty nonsmoker
