Springfield Crew meet results

This was my second full meet, and things went pretty well. Opened my sqaut at 720 then went to 760, then 800. Everyone said I looked good for more, but I'll wait to see the video before I say anything about that.

My bench sucked big time. I opened at 525 and missed. I got it on my second and missed 550 on my third. Coming into the meet I had only done one good rep in my shirt so I am not surprised it gave me troubles. I'm going to cut the back and start to learn how to use the thing. I'm sure I could have done 525 in my single poly, so right now, I'm not getting much out of my shirt.

My deadlift went really well. I opened at 620, then went to 675. Since my bench sucked so bad I need to pull more than I planned to get my elite. So I called for 725, 75 more than I had ever done. It was a grinder but I got it.

It was a awesome meet and I really liked hanging out with everyone before and after the meet. Thanks to Benchmonster, Big Okie, and Animalmass for helping me with my knee wraps, I know it was a bitch.

THe other guys here in Springfield will fill you in on their results.

Hey Dave, you had a hell of a meet. As far as the bench sucking thing, well talk to everyone else in the meet who didn't even get close to 500.

I'm glad you mentioned cutting the back of the shirt, I was gonna mention to you sending it back to take some material out because in the warmups I noticed that 365 and 405 came down a long ways. They shouldn't have came that close to touching. As strong as you are you need a shirt that takes 500 or so to touch, that way you can pull it down on later attempts so it will take 550 or so on you second attempt. You are much stronger than you let on at this meet. 900, 600, 775 in Feb are all VERY possible in Feb. Just keep on going and you'll kick ass in Feb.

It was no problem at all helping you guys. And I hope to see you all before the meet in Feb. If not, I'll be there, but this time competing. Good luck with your training and congratulations to the rest of you guys up in Springfield!!!

DG, I'm so proud of you for doing everything it took. You have SO much going for you...as a powerlifter, as a student, in general. It was a pleasure to meet you.

You rocked, dg, no question. I watched the video today, and you did a HELL of a job. I'll get all you guys' videos edited and up here soon for you.

freaky eyes

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

One thing I forgot to mention, the whites of my eyes are almost all red. I guess I popped a few blood vessels in my eyes during the squat and dead. Does anyone know how long this takes to go away? Thanks

This was my first meet. I dropped 12 lbs in 2 days to put me in the 181's (I'm ridiculously small right now). Felt pretty good about squat and deadlift. I got 425 on the squat and that was a new PR by 20 lbs. I also got 500 on the deadlift which was a new PR by 75 lbs. My Bench really sucked, but I know what I've been doing wrong, and I'm going to fix it. I've seen some pretty good numbers on the bench, from what I thought was explosive movement. I realize now that I've been bouncing the weight off my chest or the boards. This made the pause ridiculously hard to deal with. By St. Louis in Feb. I will add 20+ lbs to my body weight, and hopefully see some bigger numbers on the bench.

Big thanks to Benchmonster for letting Dave and I stay at your place. You da coolest. It was great meeting all the Asylum group, VDOP, and bgOkie. I'm looking forward to seeing you all again in St. Louis!

SQUAT: 400, 425, 450(missed)
BENCH: 275 (missed with poly), 275 (got with Hannibal's old Double denim), 300 (went ahead and through this on my neck)
DL: 400, 450, 500

LOL - "went ahead and threw this on my neck" - too funny.

Well, I def had the worst day out of the Springfield crew. Dave and Chris rocked!

I only did bench, because I threw a disc in my lower back 5 weeks ago. (BTW, I worked out on it today and it felt good - see post in Springfield Crew's numbers.)

Anyway, I opened at 405, which isn't hard for me at all. And my worst fear happened...I missed it. I took it high, couldn't get it down, and wore myself out. Just wouldn't go up.

So I had to do it again for my second attempt. I blew it up this time - no problem really.

Went fr 420 for my third, and hit the groove just right. Weight flew off my chest, and wasn't going to be a problem - then all of a sudden, it just stopped. Here I am, almost at lockout, and...nothing.

So I got 405, but sure as hell didn't approach the 450 I wanted.

450 falls in St. Louis.

congrats to everybody.

dg21 -- popped blood vessels usually clear up after a week give or take a few days depending on how bad it is.
