Someone Who Can Read Thryoid Results

Temple

New member
Had my thyroid checked a few months ago and all they would tell was "it's normal" but I understand that can be a wide range. Can someone who understands this tell me what these numbers mean?

TSH .67
Free T4 1.13
Thyroglobulin Autoabs<20
Thyroid Peroxidase <10

Three years ago my TSH was 2.03

Thanks :)

Is there anything other than T3 that will stimulate thyroid function? What adjustments do you make if any when you are functioning at the low end?

well t-4 is synthroid, but no doctor would look at your results and write you a scrip because the #'s are normal

YourTSH is in the normal range. Generally when the thyroid is not producing enough thyroid due to primary hypothyroidism, the TSH is above normal (HIGH). TSH stands for thyroid stimulating hormone. When the thyroid is not producing enough thyroid more thyroid stimulating hormone is released to try to get your thyroid to secrete more. So a low T4 and a high TSH would generally indicate primary hypothyroidism. A low TSH and a low T4 would indicate a thyroid problem originating from the pituitary gland or hypothylmus.
Your levels were in the normal range.
Was there a reason you were getting these tests done? Were your symptomatic? The other part of the tests you got done related to thyroid anitbodies. Thyroid Peroxidase levels are elevated in virtually all cases of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and in approximately 85 percent of Graves' disease cases.
I am not sure what the normal levels are for these, but your MD would have let you know if there was a problem

There are some good articles on thyroid / hypothyroid on about.com. Just do a search on TSH or hypothyroid & see what you get. Many people have thyroid readings in this wide "normal" range - they suggest to find a doc who has a diff definition of "normal" -- smaller range.

Thanks for the replies. I was alarmed by the TSH being so low thinking that number would mean low = slower metabolism. I do have some symptoms, sleepy, low energy, easy weight gain, dry skin and hair. Guess maybe I am just naturally a mess.
