So if deadlifts are supposed to be so great..

it's not just in the gym either. i also rarely see people deadlifting in the median while stopped at a red light. just sitting in their cars being all weak with their gay ass lumbar/vagina support cranked full throttle to provide comfort for the lower back. when i'm not outside my car ripping off sets and hitting the pedestrian's Walk button so that the light stays red longer, i'm sitting in the driver's seat while someone kicks the back of my seat right where my erectors are while i laugh.

I much much more prefer doing stiff-legged deadlifts. It's funny because I'm nearly sldl'ing as much as I am regular deads. I don't think conventional deads is a must, as long as you are doing some variation of deads then you will develop a complete back.

A few guys do SLDL for hams, but near zero do traditional deadlifts.

I don't do them, and anticipate I will continue this trend into the future.
They don't do 'em in my yuppie gym either.

As i've said before repeatedly, if you juice, then no you don't need deadlifts to build a decent back. If you're natural, you have no chance of building a deep, thick back without deads.

I've seen guys that juice build a decent back with 15 sets of cable rows and nothing else, but you won't be able to do it naturally.

No disrespect to anyone here, but someone who juices will put muscle on by doing reps with a broomstick.

Yeah that's the other thing I love about them. I don't do any direct trap work anymore. I just started doing deads and rack deads, and my traps exploded. The only down side is that my traps get so damn sore for the next few days, and it's one of the most annoying sorenesses.
