So if deadlifts are supposed to be so great..

deadlifts are fun, well, sometimes.

i see very few people doing them in my gym. out of the ones that do deadlift, most of them don't do it right anyway.

lol. your waist might get a little bigger, but that's because there will be two big ass pipes running up your back. deads add negligible width.

go ahead and don't do them though. i prefer people to be smaller than me.
 
yeah I love it how people somehow try to say deadlifts will make your waist big because your erector spinae will enlarge

it doesn't make your love handles bigger idiots

Only thing I liked about them is they made my traps explode.
 
my belly circumference is getting larger, but my belly is getting smaller. i have to keep reminding myself that it's the deadlifts and my diet is ok.

gotta love those deads. 225 for 4x5 1x10 on tuesday. i was so pumped after that last set, i flipped off the bar and gave it a loud FUCK YOU. (the gym was empty so it was all good :D )
 
what pigeon rat said. and no one does them because they hurt like a sonofabitch when you go heavy. but in a good way. don't do them and you'll likely never have that powered look around the shoulders that a deadlifter gets. you know the look when you see a guy hauling a pair of 100lb dbs back to the rack and he looks like a menacing bull coming to kill you? *snort*

it's not just in the gym either. i also rarely see people deadlifting in the median while stopped at a red light. just sitting in their cars being all weak with their gay ass lumbar/vagina support cranked full throttle to provide comfort for the lower back. when i'm not outside my car ripping off sets and hitting the pedestrian's Walk button so that the light stays red longer, i'm sitting in the driver's seat while someone kicks the back of my seat right where my erectors are while i laugh.

they're more of a lower body exercise than anything (look at what's actually moving the bar, not at what's merely anchoring it).

You can easily manipulate the lift to work your back more, as opposed to legs.
