KEYTONE BODIES

Ketones are products of fat metabolism and usually appear in urine in relatively small amounts. Ketonuria, or excessive amounts of keytone bodies in the urine, usually indicates that abnormal metabolic processes are occurring in the body. Ketonuria is expected during starvation situations because the body is forced to use its fat stores. Ketonuria can result in acidosis (ketoacidosis in this case). Ketonuria coupled with glycosuria is generally diagnostic for diabetes mellitus.




I was getting my physical done yesterday for basketball and had to do that piss analysis thing, well somewhere there it said that keytones was low-small something and I had no idea what it was... so now I know what the hell ketosis really means and it actaully is true

I don't think you need to worry about ketoacidosis unless you are diabetic. Someone back me up on this?

For the most part, yes. Ketoacidosis and ketosis are two different things.

Correct. You don't generally see ketoacidosis in non-diabetics. Ketosis and ketoacidosis are not the same.
