shoulder press question also rotator cuff

i got into a debate with some dude at my gym about the military press, i have a wide grip on the bar and i bring it under my chin whereas he brings it so his arms form and L, i tried his way and it came just past my nose, how far do you go when doing the military press.

on another note, my right shoulder is hurting for the first time. I think its my rotator cuff, how can i stregthen this area?

I always bring it below my chin. You don't want any shoulder problems. One of the worst parts to injure in regards to weightlifting. You should definately warm up your shoulders real good before shoulder day or chest/bench. I warm them up before any upper-body lift now. Just take some 10 or 5 lb plates or dumbells and rotate your arms like you're swimming and then in a reverse motion or stick your arms out to the sides and make small circles forward and reverse, I do both. Do some side and front lateral raises with this light weight and maybe a little shrugging and you should be good to go.
