Sesame Street to introduce HIV-positive Muppet

I think some of you are anthropormiphizing the situation...just because the idea of an HIV-positive muppet is bizare in our culture doesn't mean that it isn't acceptable in a different one.

Ok, that was probably the strangest thing I've ever written. lol

Anway, my point is that morals and all that other nonsense don't mean a fucking thing when you're dieing of AIDS. If Sesame Street can help educate kids on how to avoid the deasese (and be tolerant at the same time) more power to 'em. Personally, I think that if we were more openminded and straightforward in North America, we'd have half as many problems as we do.

That was a cool post... :fro:

Where I can see the hiv+ muppet should have some positive impact in South Africa and they're situation, ten bucks says this leads to a gay muppet down the road and teaching kids that's okay.

1) why is the assocation between HIV and gays still so rampant when its been shown its increasing prevalance is in hetero communitites as well as druggied. MAJORITY of HIV transmiasson in S.africa is Male-Female sex

2) any other country and this would be scandolous. in africa aids is virtually pandemic, and despite gvernment efforts to get em wrapped up in latex, males and females there just dont seem to care. the ONLY time you can educate them about safe sex is when they are kids before they get misinformation

of course the arguement can be made that over here condom use is well known and availible yet HIV cases are on the up because people still persist in not wearing them, so in the future such measures might be needed in the developed world. lets hope not

... but I think it should be done in school, not in sesame street. partly because I would like sesamee street to be the way it was when I was a kid. ...

Did you not watch the same Sesame Street I did? The one where they taught us about numbers, the alphabet, health, manners, respect for others, compassion, tolerance ... all those things they also teach in school.

well if we are going to shatter kids dreams by exposing them to depressing 'adult stuff', we shouldnt just stop at aids, but we should go further. they should have a corrupt corporate ceo muppet, a muppet with post-partum depression, a muppet with cancer, an islamic extremist puppet, a quadrapalegic muppet, a muppet on welfare, a single mom muppet, a pro-abortion muppet, a muppet with heart disease, an extremely fat muppet, etc. etc. why stop at aids?

Does it matter... AIDS doesn't discriminate..

Obviously you have no idea of what you are talking about. HIV discriminates heavily, since it is transmitted through behavior, unlike true non-discriminative diseases, such as Polio, influenza, Legionella, etc.

You have been brainwashed by the AIDS activists who wish to portray HIV as an extremely virulent disease, on par with the above infectious agents, in order to scare the public to provide unlimited funds for HIV programs.

I disagree...

No one is immune from getting AIDS. Yeah, your behavior can put you at a higher risk... but I've never heard of someone being immune.

And how will Sesame Street address the question of disease avoidance? They will have to address the problems of prostitution, "dry-sex", anal sex, drug use, etc. that are known risk factors for HIV spread.

Will the show give realistic portrail of the disease: Kaposi's sarcoma, Cytomegaloviral blindness, brain disorders, cachexia, death, etc.? If not, then it is not for education, but socialization.

Is this what Sesame Street is for?

you sure do say some stupid shit...a person's behavior is the prime contributing factor whether or not they contract aids. i can promise you, if a person does not fuck around and doesn't do IV drugs, they have a very very very small chance of getting aids, unless it happens through a blood transfusion or some other extremely rare incident
