alexander isn't a factor
it's the OL which is largely responsible for a back's success
xyz alexander replacement did just fine once seattle regained rythym
losing a key WR is different
their success is much more independant
true the OL has to provide the protection for the QB
but basically the WR operates on his own
in today's NFL game the elite WR is more valueable than a back
just behind the quarterback
he speaks the truth folks

Agreed. But there are some backs that can do great with very little, and alexander isnt that type.

the whole mold has to be "balanced" for it to move well in the NFL
but to break and penetrate a top NFL defense you need an elite WR
and a commensurately skilled guy to operate in tandom with him

I rank a "haus" tackle which needs the heft and the agility to handle the outside rush over a back
backs are commodities
with exceptions such as barry sanders
or larry johnson today

Larry Johnson running behind Willie Roaf next year will get LJ the single season rushing record.

as a penn state fan I'm aware
auburn in the bowl game shut johnson down
johnson needs an OL that will break him up field
hit the hole and sprint
different than a sanders or gayle sayers "shift" style
god gayle sayers had class too
why don't we hear of him?

The Bronco LB's shut him down AT ARROWHEAD this year also. He had less than 50 yards until the 4th quarter.

I sure hope Roaf and Shields stick around for another year. I dont see how the Chiefs center never makes the pro bowl. He pulls on almost all of our outside run plays. A freaking pulling center, wtf?

for the youngsters
watching film of jim brown and gayle sayers at the height of their craft is quite impressionable
granted today the athelete's are so much stronger and quick
but watch that "old" film and it's beauty
