Running and smoking...

...weed, that is.

Do any of you run track (or just run regularly on your own), and also smoke weed? What kind of effect (if any) would you say it has on your performance? Obviously smoking anything will have some effect on your lungs, but I'm only interested in noticeable decreases in performance. And to be more specific, I'm talking about smoking once a day, on average. If anything, I'd expect it to impact longer distance running.

Any input from those with relevant experience is appreciated.

weed once a day, depends, is once a day a few bowl hits or a few bong hits. The smoke is thinner so that's one thing. Personally i smoke a few times a week and Im fine.

The is not true. The smoke is not thinner, the bong water only filters out some of the thousands of toxins. In addition you get way more smoke out of the bong as compared to a pipe. I personally do not run, but if you are serious about running track I would try to stay away from the weed.

I can't believe that this question is raised.

Of course, it will affect performance. . there are mounds of literature in regards to this subject.

Bottom line is. . .quit smoking weed and learn to live a clean life. . your body will thank you in the short and long run.

yes i know u get more from a bong, thats why i was asking him what he smokes from. And the smoke being thinner, i was comparing it to cigs. I dont smoke ciggaretes anymore and let me tell you they are 1000x worse then pot for your lungs. As long as you don't overdue it it wont really affect your performance.

i have experiance with using it during season ( lacrosse and football ) no difference. It helps with muscle soreness and going to bed at night, and after tough games, its a must have.

i smoked for awhile, never noticed any diff in performance.
my nose was chronically congested also, this could also have to do with the fact that my roommate at the time was a cigarette smoker.

I smoke from a pipe, haven't touched the bong in a while. And usually one bowl's worth at a time. I've graduated high school and college already, so there's no issue of running track. I merely have personal goals, namely to lose a bit of fat and improve my times (100m/400/m/mile).

Thank you for the responses thus far.

I don't do cardio much but I noticed a huge increase in performance when I stopped toking. I think a gram spliff is equivalent to smoking a pack of cigarettes (of course there are more carcinogens in a pack of cigarettes, we're talking tar here)

I was told by some friends of mine that are swimmers/runners that as long as you don't burn your lungs you should be fine. They reported no difference in performance although they probably smoke at most 3x a week. And yeah, a bong is definately cleaner.
There's lots of shit out there on this one.
