Reverse Grip Bench Press: Any Good?

Anyone do these?

I have seen a few people here recommending reverse grip bench press for Tri’s. This is one exercise that I have never used or never seen performed. I am thinking about replacing Pressdowns in my DC routine with something that will compliment Scull Crushers and Close Grip BP.

Is a solid mass builder for Tri’s or is it another gimmick movement that’s likely to result in injury?

If anyone uses it, what’s the correct form…?

Thanks

I dont see any reason to use them. There are many isolation and compound movements which have stood the test of time.

I dont think you will see any great difference or improvement in your results if you use this lift.

However give it a try...if it feels good, it might be a good thing to throw in every now and then for variation. (dont go too heavy until you find how your wrists and elbows take it.)

reverse presses do hammer the tri's....however they can be hard on the wrists, you need a spotter to help you unrack the weight, they don't crossver to regular bench that well

do floorpresses and boards for tri's:p

I'd go with Close-grip Bench Presses and other traditional "triceps" movements over the Reverse-grip.

The reverse grip bench press is valuable for attacking the inner head of the triceps. However, this movement can be dangerous without a spotter. Overall a great exercise that a number of people use to increase their bench press. If you are interesting in performing this movement, be sure to practice with lighter weights. Good luck!

I find no reason to do them. The risk outweighs the benefits on this one. Your better off doing close grip bench, skull crushers, etc...

You say you do DC training. I believe DC himself does rev grip for tris. Hey if you believe in him enough to do his routine , might as well give them a shot.
I`ve never done them myself. but they do look interestin, due to the fact they are like no other movement for tris. I would not know proper form though. good luck

I really like them. I use a close grip, reverse grip on the Smith Machine(lol, thats a mouthful) b/c I don't train w/ a partner, I can go pretty heavy.

I like reverse press for tris a lot. I cracked a bone in my wrist a few years ago on the outside so close grip hurts like hell. Just make sure you have a good spotter and start very light until you get used to the form. I like to go fairly narrow so my arms just rub up against my ribs when I do them.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I may be forced to use them as soon as I am able to bench again after my pec tear. They are supposed to be less stressful on an injured pec and I want to compete again someday.....fingers crossed
