Ok crazy. :chomp: hahahah. You got more guts than I do. My friend took a fight to the ground in a bar once and some guys not even in the fight stomped him. Good thing there was a ton of us to save him. Ill deffenly take a street fight to the ground but not at a bar thats insane.
yes i been on both ends of that 1 in bars and street fights and it sucks
good to learn bjj but have to plan on getting up fast unless you have freinds there to watch your back 1 good kick in the face is all it takes to fuck you
up what i've alwyas found works for me is RUNNING ,plus out in the street
that asphalt hurts like hell when sombody is banging your face on it
best to learn armbars since most guys will give you there arms hopefully yuo could snap his arm and get up fast

@Judo Tom, Your exactly right. I guess I've been luck enough to trian at a school that teaches practical BJJ. We don't train to make you tap, we train to break it! but so many schools just teach the moves and not the reality of it. In my BJJ classwe often where MMA gloves so that the person in the guard can through punches to the guy on the ground so he can get use to haveing to hustle.

First i would like to comment is for real life fights u need to know standing techniques like judo and other systems . Taking any fight to the ground in a bar is crazy because most peeps travel with a buddy. If you master how to top grapple then a fight can end very quick.

I agree that standing techniques are extremely helpful in a real life fight. However, almost every fight Ive ever been in ended up on the ground. I won some I lost some. The thing is if I didnt know basic bjj I would of gotten hurt. Being comfortable on your back having someone in your guard, is just as helpful as standing techniques, if not more. people that dont know how to grapple, start to panic when on their backs, and that isnt good.

LOL! It's just as easy to keep from going to the ground as it is to go to the ground. Learn how to keep the fight off the ground and your in another fight. Plus people just look so confused that I have had some people just walk off after trying to take me down and not being successful.

shamrock, have we fought, lol. I know what you mean, I hate when I cant take someone down. It is demoralizing. I am pretty small, so I get taken down somewhat easily. Maybe Im just not that good at blocking take downs, but I seem to get overpowered a lot. also I preffer to be on the ground, my stand up is lacking.

If you good at BJJ you´re good at throws, no other way around it.

i know lots of good bjj guys who have spent almost no time training throws at all.. some hardly know takedowns..

there are lots of bjj schools out there that spend 90% of teh time on the ground which leaves very little time to practice takedowns or throws at all..

The bjj school I went to briefly was just like that. It was a little hole in the wall, so small you couldn't even try takedowns because you'd land on two other dudes.

fortunately I got out of there.

i actually liked the one i went to where all we did was ground work for 2 reasons:
first being thats why i went and thats what i wanted to focus on.

2nd when we sparred and started standing i had lots of fun trying my judo stuff against guys who had never seen it, not saying i whooped um or anything it was just fun to try it against skilled fighters who had not seen some of the 'stranger' throws and what not.
