Had to take a swimming class to graduate HS, 1 of the tests involved jumping in the pool with all our cloths on (jeans) then blowing up the jeans to learn to float.
I never thought that would work well in the real world.

Very very comfortable in the water and under the water
Can tread water for a very long time
Can swim many of the standard strokes very well
Can swim at a good pace for a long distance

Likely I would not win a race against a very strong swimmer.

i've been swimming since my toddler years, and helped teach swim lessons growing up. Always thought about being a lifeguard, but never did.

swimming is fun!

i can swim good but once i get into deep water as to my feet cant touch the ground then i have a problem:(

Now I tend to doubt all of the 8" pecker claims.

I seriously doubt that 50% of EF are power swimmers.

Haha, well lets just say that no one can outswim a riptide and leave it at that. ;)

I don't know the specs on riptids but the Florida coast has some nasty tides and stuff.

I was diving alone and came up a long way from my raft because I was distracted by my video taping.

Progress to the raft was minimal. Very, very minimal. A Coast Guard cutter was coming for me from what they say. They seen me go down and thought I had given up.

Actually I just swam beneath the surface because that was more effective. Until I ran out of air 20 yards from the raft.

If you can get within 20 yards, you can will the rest of it. Cramps do not matter when your life is at stake.

Then I had not the strenght to get over the sides on my Zodiac raft which I used to keep in the Keys. Had to crawl over the outboard area.

That was an exciting time for sure.

Which reminds me, I do also have a 16' Zodiac for the Colorado River trip. It takes an outboard and could tow the 18' Avon if the current was sluggish.

Have not aired it up in a while however.

I admit that I've never been a good swimmer not that it's something that I yearn for.
To me, the pool and the beach is a social milieu as supposed to a setting to exhibit your skills in swimming. I will quitely enjoy the sun & sand.

Went through the whole swimming lessons thing right up to lifesaving (bronze cross), but stopped there because I didn't want to have to give any more stank-breath random strangers mouth-to-mouth. Had a pool growing up that I was in constantly, and swam my fair share in the strong currents of the St. Lawrence River...so I'd say I'm a damn strong swimmer.
