i know u girls know a lot more then the guys so ill ask here.. dont tell anyone i said that...

i read that u arent suppose to eat more then 3 cans of tuna a week due to the mercury level.. is this true or how can this be explained?

thanks in advance!

Mercury is a concern during pregnancy. I was told no more than 1 - 2 cans a week when I was expecting. Of course, the expectant mom should clear this concern with her Dr., and not take advice that concerns the well-being of her child from a message board. :)

she's not pregnant... so it has no affects on her if she's not pregnant?

As I serial post......

Here is an expanded article that delves into much more depth than the FDA's listings. This would be great info to pass along to pregnant women who are used to including a lot of fish in their high protein diets. It specifically lists safe fish to eat.

Note: these precautions apply ONLY to pregnant women, nursing women, women who may become pregant, and young children with still developing nervous systems.

Mercury is usually NOT a concern in non-PG women. BUT, I wouldn't go above 3 cans a week just to be safe. Especially when you are talking about long-term consumption. Mercury can build up in the body, and there IS such a thing as mercury poisoning.

There are some canned tuna that is supposed to be safer. Let me do a little research and I'll get back to you. :)
