Quick 5x5 question

Recently i have been trying to read your posts about that 5x5 workout. Right now, i have two types of workouts, one in which i do higher reps 8-15 and one in which i do lower reps 4-8. I alternate between these two workouts like every 4 or 5 weeks to really try and stay away from stagnation. Of course the exercises and order i do changes from cycle to cycle.

My question is, with the 5x5, if i wanted to do that for a cycle instead of the 4-8 reps cycle, is 4 or 5 weeks long enough? Or am i supposed to stay on this for longer?? And does it matter if its my first time??

Thanks

I stay on it as long as I'm able to keep adding weight to the exercises, and if you keep the increments small enough, you can do that for a while

See, thats what would make sense to me too. I used to stay on a routine until i stopped seeing any progress, but then i was talking to the head of athletics at this school and he said that you should vary your training up regardless of how the progress is going....

So i have been trying to do that. But once i am in 5x5 and if it works well, i figure, why change whats working right?
