questions on deadlifts

Manu

New member
Hi everyone,

Recently i posted my workout and i am remaking it and reading posts.
One exercice that some people told me to do is deadlifts, i never did them and no one in the fitness gym i'm in does. I think i might missing something important here.
I am reading all posts concerning deadlifts (didn't finished yet :-)
Let me ask a few questions:
Do BB's do deadlifts? Is it good for mass? Is this some powerlifting exercice? what is the main benefit? overall strenght? mass? I read in some posts people telling deadlift increases arm strenght and mass.
My goal really is to add mass and i realise that gaining proper strenght is a must.

My question is: What gains give deadlift?

Thanks

Deadlifts are part of the Big 3, squats, bench press, and deadlifts. If you don't have them in your routine add them in.

Deadlifts work:

Hamstrings, Quadriceps
Glutes
Spinal Erectors
Lats
Traps
Lower Back
Forearms

BB's do deadlifts and YES its good for mass. What gains will you make by doing deadlifts well add them into your program and after a month you'll know what kind of gains deadlifts give you.

Ditto

I agree with the above.. You gotta do Dead, Squats, Bench, Press if you want to build muscle. Otherwise, get out out of the gym and over to the aerobics class !:mix:

My back is MOSTLY all erectors...and they have mostly been built with heavy deadlifts.

Variation is always a key factor...but deadlifts have always been a main-stay into my routine.

B True

how much variation can you really throw into a deadlift? Stiff or bent ... anything else is news to me. whatever you got, toss it to me. i always enjoy a little variation in the ol' workout

I have just started doing deads a couple of weeks ago. I am going really light rightnow because I am not keeping good form because I have never done them before. Is there a key to keeping your form? Is there some secret to it? I always tend to bend my back a little when doing them and I am afraid to go up in weight because I don't want to throw my back out.

Any keys to keeping the back straight?

there are:

conventional dead lifts
BBDeadlift.gif

sumo deadlifts
partial deads
stiff leg deadlifts
BBStiffLegDeadlift.gif

straight leg deadlifts

I think there are more, but these are the common ones

...

I suppose it is alright to start with conventional ones...

Am i right to think that the conventional ones work more legs also?
How do you make them? you change the style according to routine? 4 weeks conventional then change routine and start doing stiff leg deadlifts?
I was thinking in something like this on back day :

pullups
Barbell Rows
Deadlifs (conventional)
pullover

Dos this sound good?

Thanks
