Questions about starting anal sex.

I know everyone says start with a finger or your pinky, but does this mean for the 1st few times use your fingers only, or does this mean use you fingers till shes comfortable and then use your penis?
Also do you start with your pinky and then after shes comfortable use a bigger finger and so on?
And when you finally do use your penis (yes I know do it very slowly) do you only put it in a little bit and work your way slowly till it is in all the way?
My girlfriend has had anal sex befor, but the guy she did it with I don't really feel like he knew what he was doing or really even cared if it hurt or not on her part.

Unsolicited advice from a gay guy:

What they all said - get her good and relaxed, use your finger(s) first to loosen her up, and DON'T FORCE IT. Most people are really, really tight at first (like me), but after a while, and if you can get them turned on enough, they'll loosen right up. Take it slow and easy, and enjoy.
