question to the women:::

Is there anything I can take to increase muscle mass without any masculine side effects? I already have increase my protein intake and i did the whole creatine thing (unsuccessfully). I really don't want to take pills because i know it'll ruin my liver but I want to get a little bit bigger without any "manly' features. any advice??

no flame intended, but i think you need to do a little more research... if you are speaking of the anabolic route, orals PROBABLY won't, especially at woman's (low) dosages, ruin your liver (unless a pre-existing condition is there)... many times, the dedication and extra precautions taken on an oral cycle will improve your liver function (i.e. you shouldn't drink on a cycle, that'll help right there)... men should exercise precaution when on orals in regards to their livers, but their dosages are much much higher than the average female's... and the size, composition and health of a liver doesn't vary drastically by gender (that's more a genetic and health thing from my understanding)... (i believe anavar has even been linked to improve liver function in alcoholics, but don't quote me on that)

basically, if you are not ready for AS (which it doesn't sound like it) food is the most anabolic substance you can get... eat enough of the right (clean) food, lift heavy and your muscles will respond...

do some reading and research on anabolics if that's the route you're interested in.. and there are other routes than oral as well... all as have sides, but at low dosages, these are minimized for most people...

read lobo's tip top tips to start out with...

i definitely have to agree with phem...

you shouldn't even be thinking of some "magic" pills to accomplish your goals for you. try working out hard with some heavy weights and eat right and do enough cardio.
you won't get any "manly" features....believe me!

if you want some more muscle, it's a simple plan really. eat right, train hard! plus you seem way to inexperienced to be even thinking of AS. It's definitely not something for newbies and I can tell from your questions/post that you definitely are.

sorry if this comes accross as harsh, but it's for your own good.

primo,primo,primo

Hope that was a joke....

SG22 -- cruise the diet & training boards for a while. Then expect to spend some time following a clean diet & a good training program. You will not notice any facial hair growth, deep voice changes or a small penis growing. If anything, you will find yourself getting "smaller" -- as your body fat goes down, you get tighter and maybe your weight doesn't drop because muscle weighs more than fat.

You will not look develop muscle like a guy because women simply cannot unless they are doing AS. There are no magic pills -- just a lot of dedication and determination. And by the same token, research any commercial supplement you want to use--you can end up with a counter or cupboard full of supplements that may or may not do anything except empty out your bank account. Stick w/ the simple, clean diet, eat enough food to support balls to the wall training. Include protein mixes if you have a hard time getting enough protein in with regular food in a single day. I would also suggest l-glutamine to support recovery of the level of training that is required to build "significant" muscle. The worst thing you can do is "over train" (or "under recover") while you seek to increase your muscle mass.

Good luck!

Research and educate!!! Its a serious step...not one to be taken lightly!!! How long have you been training?? Make sure you are eating and training very hard. Sometimes small changes there can make a big difference.. Read the boards!! Take your time and know that KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Past research claim that the body cannot assimilate more than 20 (give or take a few) grams of protein at one time. I'm going to have to look through some old notes from class to find out the amount. I use to be a big protein consumer, but then I found out that it was just a waste. Protein's main function is to rebuild tissue that your hard workouts put you through. Increasing your protein is not going to make you pack on mass. Increasing your total calories and your resistance training will, though.

Get back with you with some references.

ciao

ok, i'm not looking for a magic pill...although that would be a great thing. i workout hard. i just dont feel like i'm gaining enough muscle mass. for example, when i work my bi's...they look GOOD for a day or two and then its just back to where they were. there has been a difference though because i am eating more now and i'm consuming alot more protein. i've seen a difference and my friends have been pointing out that they see a difference as well but i want more. i'm lifting heavy and i just starting eating better. i dont know, i guess i'm just over anxious and i'm one of those people who think its never enough...thanx for the advice everyone!

many of us are in the same boat.. it really is just time. when i look at some of these girls pics and say WOW... how come i dont look like that!?!?!? then i answer my own question and say...well, they have been working out and eating clean for about 7-10 yrs already and ive been working out for ummmmm 2!!! simple answer really...just time and dedication. we'll get there.. hey, check out smalls post about her "10.5 inch bicep" look at her progress...shes doing great!! just be patient:D
