Question on shoulder days...

....I haven't lifted my shoulders by themselves in years. I have been splitting them up so I do front delts on chest day and side and rear delts on back day. Although I did have incredible sucess with my delts by doing these splits, I'm going to change my splits so I work my entire shoulders in one day. I can't decide if I should do both db presses and barbell presses in the same workout. I've been looking at a bunch of different routines my various pro's and a lot of them do both in the same workout(I know most of them are taking well over 2,000mg of juice a week). Do you guys see much of a point in doing both exercises?? Like I said, I haven't had just a shoulder day in a long time, but it seems like it will be a pretty easy day compared to the others.

I would do one or the other. They both work the same range of the muscle, so there is no need to do both. Besides, after a few weeks you'll need to switch up your exercises to keep your growth going, and just doing one exercise at a time will make that easier.

Yea, this is what I was probably going to do. In the past when I did just have a shoulder only day, I only did one or the other. I was just reading some of these routines and wondered if any of you guys either do both exercises or recommend doing them both.

A buddy of mine does both, so I tried it for a while. I usually do 4 working sets of barbell, so I cut it to 3 sets, followed by 3 sets of dummies. So, even if they are too similar to be productive, its still only 6 total sets. Anyway, I feel that they are different enough to warrant a moderate combination of the two.

Anyway, overhead presses are the deadlift for delts, so I don't see 6 as overkill.

Well I can tell you what I currently do for delts and I have had great success without having to change things around too much in the past month or so. My current delt workout looks like this:

Heavy presses with either d-bell or barbell (but not both in the same workout) - 3 sets of 6-8 reps
D-bell side laterals - 3 sets of 8-10 reps
Bent-over laterals - 3 sets of 8-10 reps

NOTE: On the side laterals and bent-over laterals, I sometimes perform drop-sets till failure to keep them growing and prevent them from plateauing.

They both work the muscles in basically the same way so I would pick one or the other. I've spent a lot of time trying to determine which one would build more mass for me, and have decided without a doubt military press to the front is the one for me. I've worked up to strict sets with the 110lb dumbells, and all I got was tendon aches. For the past year I've been concentrating on military and have made incredible gains in my delts
