question on reps

ok, today i was doing dumbbell press, and i always start with a set of 75x8. then i move up to 80x8. then i use 80 for the last set but can never do 8. always just 7 reps. should i back off the 80s and do 75s for all 3 sets just to make sure i can get the 8 in or does it really matter that much?
 
Just keep striving to lift heavier. I go down to 4 or 5 controlled reps for most of the compound exercises i do including dumbell press.
 
Doing 80x8 for multiple sets you`re pretty strong to be asking that question. You also say I always do 75 then ALWAYS do 8 then ALWAYS 7. Are you going up in weight? how long have you been on the same weight? either give it another week or mix it up with standing barbell presses and when you come back you`ll pass the sticking point.

That was my first thought. "Always" sets alarm bells ringing. Gotta aim to up the weight. Where does the weight stick? Work on your weakness.
 
well i mean with the current weight i use. i ahvent always used 75 then 80. shit, a month ago i was using 65s and 70s.

heres what i do now
75x8
80x8
80x7

thats what i was asking, is it that important to be able to get that last set of 8 reps. i always get stuck halfway through the rep also. but i talked to my friend like 30 mins after i posted that and he said stick with the 80s for 7 reps, and after another week or so i should be able to do it for 8 reps.
 
if you went up in weight over the last month like you said then relax and you will hit those reps sonner or later. I do recommend that you take a little more rest time between those sets. if you can't get all 8 in 2-3 weeks then drop back to 75 and rep out 8 on both sets for two weeks and then go back up.
 
k. ill try that. im pretty sure within a week or two i should be able to pull out all 8 reps in both sets of 80. then ill move on to doing all 3 sets with the 80s
