Question for the Gals

I go shopping and find my size which is a 0 or 1. Take the stuff in to the dressing room and try it on. For some strange reason when I zip the skirt, pants or shorts up I can pull them right off without unfastening them.

Are they changing sizes to make the fatties feel skinner or to make the skinny feel anorexic???? This is really starting to bother me! I have never had this problem.

It trully depends if you are shopping in juniors then I would say the size fits at little smaller in womens I think they for sure trying to make the fatties feel normal cause even in off season womens I can were a 2-4 in juniors it is a 5-7. I think they 00 at some stores now.

You hit the nail on the head actually. I was reading a article and they were saying that they have been changing the sizing to make the heavier woman feel less.
Yes I am a male and no I'm not gay.

I have always shopped in the juniors. This is the first season I have ever dealt with this.

Do you know where I can find this article?

I know in the 50's and 60's sizes were way different then now

Instead of numbers, they should say fat, fatter, fattest, off the charts lard ass, etc.

superqt4u2nv said:
Dam maybe start shopping in the tween stores.

Then I have the issue of them not fitting my hip are my large ass. The cut in there bottoms are not made for a womens figure.... :worried: I think I may give up and go live on a nude beach..:lmao:

It's similar with mens clothing. An XL t-shirt has a 50" circumference, and a size 32 in jeans fits a 40" waist.

In shape people don't make up the bulk of the population, nor the majority of the sales, thus marketing appeals to the majority or common person.

I can't remember for sure but I do remember them saying that 4 was the new 2 if that helps any.

Yeah I think we read / saw the same thing. I beleive it is called vanity sizing.

When my Great-grandfather came to America he had to find a TAILOR because he was so small....Them Italian genes are strong...DANG

I fixed the misspelling, think the fucker will be happy now?

Different brands run large or small.

So the 0-1 in Macy's, limited and the Express all all fucked :worried:

That is why I have to spend so much money on clothes, cause I have to go to stores like BEBE, Arden B, Lucky Brand. Dang my bank account is not going to like this shit if something is not done soon

You should shop juniors. They probably would fit you better than misses, which is what is sold in maci's, etc. It isn't the size difference so much as the cut.

Holy shit my head is going to explode.

This belongs in the "Gals" forum.

It's TAILOR. Not Taylor. Superqt is Canadian and covergrl lives in Delaware so this doesn't surprise me.

And it means your ass is getting too small.

Umm I am shopping in Junior.

Vanity sizing, BIG TIME. Im' 5'7'', and wear a 0 (unfortunately, most are too short, and they don't make 0's in long)... Most stores, even those are too big in the waist... But again, it's all vanity sizing, not the true size. I'd say a zero is more like an actual 3/4.

wow... so if I stood next to you my waist would be at like your boobs.

I don't go by the tag size I hold the clothes up in front of me and decide if it's worth trying on. The best thing is to just be dressed by a salesperson and let them fit you with the clothes that they sell every day.

Clothing sizes have changed but there's also no consistency of a clothing size either - so basically you have no idea what you're gonna get.

A zero is as small as you can go.

Good god how tall are you

You are that girl that I hate SO much! I hold up a pair of pants and the damn things are 5 feet to long. Then I say to myself " Who the Fuck is a size zero and is this damn tall?" :lmao:

lol Right. I'll trade ya :) Easy to get them hemmed, hard to let the hem out when there's not much there to begin with.

The worst ones are those you mentioned, express, banana republic, etc... They run waaaay big. I love Theory for work- suits, etc.... Expensive, but they fit!

I'm 49-50" chest and have to wear xxl shirts. Depending on the jeans I can get a way with 33's but my waist is 35. Baggy and regular are way different in the waist. Regular I'd have to wear a 44 just to get my hips into them. lol

I have no clothes smaller than a 6.
I have a 27" waist and a 34" inseam.
I've been bigger and smaller - clothing size isn't who you are, it's just what you wear.

but you are athletic an tall (ie. Gabe Reese) so it must look perfect for you.

how tall are you again?

Up until a few months ago I always thought I was 5'7 but the nurse said no - 5'8 (MUHAHAHA more food for me then)

I have a short waist and long legs - hence the inseam.

As long as you look good naked - size don't mean jack.

I do hear a lot of petite girls complaining about clothes and not being able to find any and that's no fun.

I often buy pants larger just to get some extra length on a standard 32" inseam. Actually, I hate shopping - I always order the same stuff online and get someone else to dress me in the small clothing stores. I don't have mad mix and match skills.

Yoga pants, jeans and skirts are my friends. :)

Jesus, I'm a rambling freak.

LOL, I fully agree - I guess I would prefer to look better nude (rather than clothed) than the alternative!

I recently fell back in love with worn jeans (light)... :)

Oh.

I buy all my suits in petites. You might try that for your more conservative clothing. I never was a size 0, even at 100 lbs. Smallest was a 2-4 for me, but I had good luck with fit in petites.

I love when they are old and soft and like shoes - broken in just to fit you.

Perfect - exactly how these jeans are - I have no idea how some people buy new shoes all the time...so blah.

wow, that was hot.
I need a room now.

excuse me.

I feel the same way. I am a size 1 and most 1's are now too baggy and shit..Same with tops. I went from a medium to a small and still some smalls are too big for me.

I mutherfucking HATE HATE HATE the way women's sizes run, and this bullshit vanity sizing shit sucks dick.

When you go past a certain size (I'm not sure what that is, I think above 10/12 depending on the store) you start running into the reverse problem, they cut the shit too frigging small.

The male corollary is shirts. Why is a XXXL shirt longer than a XXL shirt but not much bigger. And then a XXXXL shirt isn't longer than a XXXL but has much wider shoulders.

Also why to people who need a L/XL buy up my size shirts?

Cheers,
Scotsman

that's weird. I'm 5'7 with the opposite build. Long torso and short arms/legs. I'm 5'7" and regular length pants are ALWAYS too long. So, I end up buying pants in a SHORT. lol weird.

My former boss was about 5'5 and 130lbs give or take a few and she needed an suit for an event she had to host and I can recall the designer but she came back with a SIZE 14 suit.

She was hysterical.

I held it up and I was like there no Fin way this is a 14. (and this was a few years ago)

You really can't go by the label you really just have to look at the clothes hold them up and try them on.

It's really hardest for people for are on either end 0-2 or 14-16 - if you're somewhere in the middle you have more choices.

Is a size 6 big for womens clothing?
IMO it's tiny :lmao: A petite 4'11 woman is going to think a six 6 is big, for her it could be. Me, I'm 5'9" and I've never been able to get my upper body below a 10.

You have to take height and frame into consideration (put it this way, my wedding band is an 8.5, most women I know can put my wedding band on their thumb and have room to spare).

Sizes are bullshit. You have to buy the clothes that fit your body. Women who bodybuild/seriously lift weights start running into some really strange problems

FACT - US size 0 is really a 2 and so on these days. Designers had to do that about 2-3 years ago. Go to Europe and you will see the difference.

So why did they HAVE too?

To make women feel better about themselves. They have to appeal to the masses and in this case they are the masses. :-)
It all comes down to marketing and moving a product.

So if a two is a zero then what size do I wear? lol

I thought the same thing over the last two years. I am a size 0 but I do not think that I should be. I don't have the problem with a size 0 falling off, you are going to have to go to juniors or girls.

You're not kidding.

Coats, jackets, blazers and cocktail dresses I always buy large and have them tailored or I just wear loose and go for the orphan annie look (which seems to work for me)

I'm tall but I don't have a large frame but I'm still bigger than my friends (who all seem to be under 5'2") so no matter what size I'm wearing next to a shortie I'm a giant. (thank God boys come in different sizes too)

I remember this one accountant that worked in the same offices and as me, she was about 5' and maybe 85 90lbs and her clothes floated on her she was so petite and like a china doll all her features were just the right scale for her. One day we were talking and we were both leaning over a desk and I noticed just how tiny her hands were - the tips of her fingers were where my middle knuckles were. I was stunned at the realization.

People come in all different scales... LOL

Get it scales....

PHHHHHHHHhhhhhhbbbbbbbbbbb ... architectural joke..

My time as a model helped my *head* with this bigtime.

Did you know that clothing is made to fit a *fit* model? This is a man/woman whose measurements are supposed to be perfectly "X" amount of inches for this measurement and "X" amount for that - and perfect height. Then with mathematical calculations they size up and down, pettite and big/tall, etc. If the fit model shows up for the job and is not the size she is SUPPOSED to be, guess what? Throws the entire line off.

Since I found this out (a fit model was laughing about it during a swimwear gig we were doing together) I was like, "Cool, so it isn't ME it is the clothing." I am pretty intune with my body and my mirror works fine, so I know when I have put on some bodyfat or lost some muscle mass. I dont NEED the label on jeans to tell me something about ME that I already know.

I take clothing anywhere from size 0 to 6. I also wear children's sizes (because I am so short) 12 to JR 4. I also wear some men's pants because I like the way they sit on my hips. 28/32. (I like my pants to bag at the bottom).

Also you have to take into consideration the fabric - does it have give? If the fabric is stiff there is NO WAY I can get tops over my still really large lats and fake boobies so I dont even bother.

And yes, American clothing is cut bigger than European clothing because in general Americans are much fatter than their European counter parts - hence "relaxed fit" was born to make Americans feel less self-conscious about this FACT.

I like to watch the show Project Runway and I finally got an inkling of just how obtuse clothing manufacturers are. These designers REALLY don't know how to MAKE clothes for people whose bodies are dramatically different from their dressmaker's dummies (the perfectly proportioned size 6 or whatever it is).

There was one challenge where they had to make clothes for each other's female relatives. The designers were at a total loss what to do/how to dress the big women, it was no accident that the designer whose model was close to having a "normal" size and shape won the competition. The sad part is at least one designer was downright nasty to his model. Look, no matter what her size, she's a potential customer.

Supposedly some of the stores are getting machines in that measure you (without taking your clothes off) and give you a list of what size you are in various clothing manufacturer's and they're supposed to take into consideration things like calf size and shoulder slope. One of these days I'd like to try one out:

I would wear those brand if there logos were not plastered all over the ass!! LOL ....Like I need to draw any more attention to it. Plus every chic I have ever seen wear that stuff have been gettttto as hell. Not saying you are :qt:

Don't feel fat! Most people forget how short I am, that is why I wear a zero.

I am short - 5'1"

But anyways, I try to buy the ones without the logos plastered everywhere. I dont like that either. You can find them if you go to TJ Max or Marshalls. Seriously, you might find a good fit. Cuz I have a wide behind and a small waist - those kind of jeans that you are buying dont fit me right. They make my ass look like a pancake. Those that I wear allow your ass to be round shaped and lifted.
