Question about female inmates.

I work a a federal prison and deal with health issues.

Unfortunately, crystal meth has been a popular drug and a primary reason why many of the women I see are having to do time.

Many have weight loss issues. They say they were never skinnier than than they were while taking these strong stimulants. Many are saying that they are having great difficulty returning to their normal weight which they had prior to any drug use.

Do you know if these drugs cause some temporary, or even worse, perminant damage to their metabolisms?

My own therory is that while they were on meth, many cannabolized their lean mass and made any future weight loss all the more difficult.

Any feedback will be appreciated and shared with those incarcerated.

all that i know of meth, and this would be from personal experience, is that it is not uncommon, when binging on it, to go anywhere from 2 to 3 days with no food at all, even water can be a chore to drink. what you are saying makes sense.

Meth catabolizing lean mass could be the culprit, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did permanent damage to their adrenals as well. Less catecholamine release, and/or downregulated adrenoreceptors = less fat oxidation, no?

Those poor women. :(
