Quad/Calf Development

What would be better for developing the quads/calves:

Squats (non-weighted)

or

Bike riding/running

Or should I just incorporate both into my routine.

take out the (non-weighted) and you're set

but

my legs got some development from cycling... not as much as squatting, but riding up tough hills is pretty demanding on your legs... some might argue that cycling would hurt muscle growth, but probably not as much as running would hurt... unless, of course, you are doing sprints...

You will not be able to build quads and hamstrings without resistance training. You need to get under the bar and add weight each week. As far as I am concerned, you are waisting your time with non-weighted squats. Running and bike riding will not build quads and hams. However, they are beneficial for developing cardio endurance. If you want to build muscle, you need to hit the weights. Sooner or later, your body will require more than just your bodyweight.

Results of 6 months worth of squatting - both bodyweight and with weights and a whole lotta of jumping and sprinting.

Haha, great... now it sounds like I have to get back into weights again. My friends told me they think I should put on s'more size anyway. Bleh, stupid friendly advice -_- Not what I wanted to hear, but, eh... I guess I could use some more. Guess I'm back =P
