no. push up is approximatly the same weight as bench pressing 75% of your body weight. im 250 x 75%= 187. i used 180 for 10 sets of 3 reps for my speed bench. so pushups wouldnt do a great deal..........
........ however....... active recovery is different. i do a pushups for active recovery if im sore beyond belief.
I do push-ups sometimes but i use them only to gage my workout i know going in fresh i can do70-75 push-ups nonstop but at the end of my chest workout i better only get 2-4 if i get anymore i know i didn't hit my workout hard enough and its time to push myself harder
I perform knuckle push ups (on the hardwood floor). I'm working on explosiveness now. I feel it will help assist my bench; you know, to overcome "humps". And it's working.
Right now I'm following Chad Waterbury's "100-reps" program for my pushups. Oh yeah, much fun
