In the deltoid after insertion of the needle are you suppose to

to pull back on it to see if you get any blood? if so how much

do you pull back. can you descibe what i will see if i do this and

not hit a vein . Will anything back up in to the needle?. Is

this very nessary? I have not ever done it before.

Its called aspirating and you should do it everytime you inject.

You only have to pull back a little bit. It will feel a little hard to pull on, like its getting sucked back in. You should only see bubbles enter the syringe when you aspirate. If the syringe fills up with blood, don't inject. Pull it out and inject in another place.

I only get blood when aspirating maybe only 2% of the time I inject.

what you are doing is called asparaiting (sp) and if the pin is in the vein you will get a fair amount of blood in the case , if not in a vein , then you shoulden't get anything , maybe very little blood.

I'm not an expert on site injections , but this is what I've found to work.

Ok this is really easy. You inject your self then pull back. If you are not in a vein nothing will happen you should not get any blood at all, I mean none. The plunger will just be sucked back to original position and no blood will show in the hub of the needle. However, if you hit a vessel there won't be as much negative resisance and you'll get what is called a flash back. This is blood that shoots into the hub of the needle as soon as you hit the vessel. The hub is located where the needle twists onto the syringe. That little area there at the connection will turn a red color when you hit the vessel. And like was said if you do just pull out and pick another place. Remember change the needle if that happens to make sure it is sharp, nothing like a dull needle, lol andinject again.
