possible apartment hunting...question for the ladies

Sassy69 said:
I avoid the 1st floor like the plague - in my mind there are too many windows that are very easily accessible (break into) and also the doors are very accessible with an easy approach & easy "getaway" and also people can observe you easily from the parking lot. I don't think I'm being paranoid - but I don't see the point in makign it easier for something bad to happen. Also when I lived in FL I also needed to be aware of areas that were prone to flooding.

you know, i never really thought about the every day neighbor or something being able to peek in on ya...thanks for making me think about that. I am just so afraid that in the middle of the night some one will come in and get us...lol....good god....i just hope i don' t have to actually go through with getting an apartment....but i am looking and getting advice, just incase it comes to that. Thank you ladies!!!

so if you didn't post on some of my other threads, i want to say thank you for all your advice and help. I am leaving elite..i really appreciate everything you guys have done for me...thank you!!

Do you live in a safe area?

I will never get an apartment on the first floor. Too many bad experiences.

When I first moved to San Antonio, I got an apartment on the first floor because it was the only thing available. Three weeks later I woke up to a man standing at the foot of my bed staring at me. Not pleasant..

I also saw a really bad experience happen to a neighbor of mine in another complex. She lived on the first floor. These were expensive places to rent in the best parts of town too.

I dunno...I don't want to scare you because it would be easier with kids to live on the first floor. If you do, just make sure you put metal bars/wood poles in your windows and sliding glass doors.

Good Luck! :)

OMG!! ok, so you have most definantly talked me out of first floor...if i wasn't sure before, i am now!!!!! Want to first make sure my children will be safe...more important than convinence (sp) Hopefully after today, i will not need an apartment...keep your fingers crossed for me!

I liked having an apartment on 2nd floor or higher because people couldn't see into my level and it would have taken some acrobatics to get onto my porch (or a ladder but I always figured that would be rather bold as it would be very noticeable). I've never lived on first floor but I always felt bad at my old place for the people who did because they often had headlights shining into their windows. On the plus side though, they could set their groceries outside, unlock the patio door, and bring it all in easily. Plus moving is easier on the first...but I'd still feel safer a littler higher off the ground.

hi there....i have been looking into apartments...and have a question...if any of you females have lived in apartments on your own, or with children, which floor is the best to be??? i have heard very bad things about the first floor, but on the other hand very good things...was wondering if any of you had any opinions or experiences????
thank you
while the first floor would be easier, I agree with all that safety comes first. the walk up the stairs to the second floor is good exercise and most places have storage for things like strollers. you could always move in with a room mate? say a close family member or friend? :qt:

LOL you have anyone in mind???? Well, i think after all of this, second floor doesn't seem to bad......and exercise is always good!!! Hopefully it won't come to this thought!!!! :)

I lived on the 1st floor in my last apartment. I didn't mind it, except everyone that walked by would look in when they saw something move. I lived in a pretty safe area...the odd time I'd get freaked out about being on the main floor, hearing noises or people in the laneway. Good reason to call the bf to come sleep over though!!

If i was to live in an apartment now I would definatly live on the first floor....with 2 children that RUN and JUMP ALOT I wouldn't wish that on anyone who lived below me LOL

As for safety I think if your in a safe neighborhood you shouldn't have to worry about it.,...and think of it this way if there's a fire or something you can get out a heck of alot easier than if you were on the top floor....

Just my opnion....
