Hey guys, I just totally changed my eating patterns and started working out and doing cardio, but I'm not sure what truly constitutes a good diet. I'm not trying to be a huge bodybuilder or anything, I would just like to lose some weight and put on some muscle. Anyways, below is a brief summary of my day yesterday, I know it isnt as detailed as people usually post but hopefully you guys can give me some insight as to what I'm doing right or if I'm doing anything wrong.

8:00-8:45 Cardio
9:50 Oatmeal
1:00 Tuna and some soy chips
5:00 grouper patty
7:45 chicken noodle soup and green beans
10:00 soy chips and an orange
all day i only drank water

Total cals about 900
fat about 18 g
carbs about 90
protein about 40

P.S. For those of you who have noticed my numerous posts lately, please realize I am not trying to bombard the boards, just simply trying to get a handle on this whole thing. Thanks for any help you've already given me and for any in the future!

We need to know the quantities of food, like 1 cup of oatmeal and such. This meal plan doesn't say much.

oh yeah sorry bout that. I'm 19, 6'6, 220 lbs, I'd like to lose about 10-15 lbs of fat and gain some muscle. anyways, im not sure about exact measurements on the foods, but for example:

the oatmeal was 1 packet of quaker oatmeal
the tuna was just a can
the grouper was just a small, burger sized patty
green beans was 1 can
soup was 1 can
the chips i just had 10 chips each time for a total of 20

thanks guys

wow, u are only eating 900 cals and you want to lose fat and gain muscle. i would say thats pretty much impossible to lose fat and gain muscle unless you are on aas, and its still hard then. you have to decide what you want to do first, gain muscle or lose fat. you need to find your bmr for bulking and cutting. there are a lot of posts on this forum about dieting that you should def read up on. just guessing by your weight and age, for bulking, youd need around 4000-4500 and for cutting around 2400-2700.

well i mean i dont necessarily have to gain a lot of muscle yet, my main goal is to lose this fat. i wasnt sure of how many calories i should be eating. that was the whole point of my post. if you have any advice please let me know, dont just tell me that im wrong
