My good friend and co worker was in a bad motorcycle accident today. I just got home from the hospital. This guy is my engineer on the Ladder truck I'm on. I ride the seat behind him and we work as a team performing outside operations and ventilation. Last shift I'm at this raging fire with the dude, busting our asses, and tonight I can't even recognize my brother because he has so much trauma to his head. They said he probably will not make it. The Chaplin at the hospital took us into the intensive care unit to see him, couldn't hardly recognize him. He has multiple skull fractures, brain hemoraging, but worse of it all his lungs so bruised up and have so much fluid on them they cannot utilize oxygen like they should. I told my bro goodbye and I loved him. We see a lot of pain and death on the job, but fuck if it just isnt the same when it's one of your own. I love you Kenny

Sorry, bro. I'm sending my prayers. I get where ur coming from....a couple of years ago, 2 of our medics were shot and killed. Good friends of mine and we are all family.
It really sux when this happens. You should get away from the computer and go be with ur other bros.
 
I'll be praying for him. Thats terrible. I had a friend wreck his bike two years ago, he made it but lost an arm and a leg. I hope your friend can pull throu.
 
I'll pray for your friend, these events are shocking and make you understand the value of each moment. I'm one month from the tragic death last year of my best friend in an auto accident and still have a hard time.

I would go up there and stay with him till the time he passes if that is what you expect, you won't regret it.

Yes, he always wears a helmet, and it was still this bad!! The helmet was shattered into pieces all over the highway. I just got off the phone with my Captain and he gave me an update. The bad news is he's off the ventilator and onto the oscalator, which is like a last resort. But the good news is his body is starting to utilize Oxygen with the Osculator because he's getting more liters/min. into his bloodstream. If he can get the fluid off his lungs he might have a fighting chance. I had to take the day off today, couldn't sleep worth a fuck last night. And to be truthful, I'm not sure I can go in there and not have it fuck with me all day.

and just curious, outta let's say 10 calls, how many are actual fire calls at your station?

Prayers out Bro. I understand on every level. MyWay's advice to hang with your bros or as was said go hang with him will be easier on you than the mental torture of being alone and away.
 
we buried a young(33 I think) firefighter/fire paramedic today who was killed in a bike accident
was a big deal
I've been out all week going to insurance school so I missed it
I did stop by the funeral home last night after midnight and there was about a dozen sharply uniformed firefighter honor guard guys hangin' out doing a rotating color guard
the color guard guys stand at attention at each end of the casket
must of been around 40 firetrucks and EMT vehicles here as I got to work today after my exams and caught the tail end
many different municipalities too

you boyz be careful on your bikes
I've seen far too many young guys dead due to bike mishaps
 
sorry to hear man, prayers with him/family and you. been there, it sucks, never leaves.
stay strong brother, he would want it that way.
